"Mowani Mountain Camp review"

3 nights Arrived 10 Nov 2010
"Mowani has a stunning location and had been highly recommended by friends who had visited several years ago. Everywhere we went in Namibia , the staff were great and we felt that Mowani's were probably the best we encountered, so praise indeed.

Somehow, it didn't quite fulfil expectations and was probably the only place that disappointed in any way. Our luxury room was a good size, well furnished and had great views but the shower was erratic (too hot or too cold) and the bathroom did not deserve the luxury designation - tired, stained plumbing and fittings, cracked shower waste.

Quality of food ingredients was high, but vegetables at dinner dull (plain boiled everything) and usually cold.

The camp has recently had a new manager who perhaps has not yet had chance to make his mark - it feels to us that this place is trading on its reputation. We would hesitate to recommend it on this showing - it's excellent in some things and distinctly below average in others." See all these reviews: 16n in Namibia

"Art and elephants at Mowani Mountain Camp"

3 nights Arrived 12 Jun 2010
"This lodge has the most spectacular setting in the hills with enormous boulders scattered around as though giants had been playing bowls/marbles/petanque!

The staff here were rather more formal than at Kulala Desert Lodge but nevertheless very friendly and efficient.

The food here was quite sophisticated and really delicious. The oryx was particularly good and cooked to perfection.

Our guide, Athan, was very informative on all aspects including not only the wild life but also on the rock art. He found the desert elephants for us - a group of 8 including two youngsters. Just stunning.

While the shower was a little temperamental this was just a minor point in an otherwise great visit." See all these reviews: 16n in Namibia

"Disappointment at Mowani Mountain Camp"

2 nights Arrived 16 Oct 2009
"We had high expectations of this camp but without wishing to moan were for some reason treated as second class citizens, something we have never found anywhere in ten years of travelling to Africa.

At sundowners we were first to order our drinks but not to receive them, at dinner we were first into the dining room and last to be served and at breakfast were first in again as we had a long journey ahead of us but were served after a party of 5 on a fly-in safari. To add insult to injury on our way out down the road we were even asked to push their vehicle which had a flat battery!!

On arrival we'd asked to be upgraded to a view tent if one had become available. We believe one was available on the second night but it appeared to be too much trouble for them to offer to move us. Our bed was thrown together on the second morning and our towels were not even changed.

A big expensive disappointment which we shall not repeat. It was almost laughable had it not been so embarrassing." See all these reviews: 17n in Namibia

"Literally a great hidaway"

2 nights Arrived 14 Oct 2009
"We loved this place. The lounge and dinning areas were fabulous and not just because of the magnificent views. The food was excellent, the staff friendly and knowledgable and the toilets were pretty cool too!! The sundowner spot was one of the best not just because of the great vantage point but also because of the well prepared/served drinks and canapes.

We loved our 'tent' and enjoyed sleeping with the canvas open to the wilderness of our front garden!

A great place to stay. One we will be returning to. We even, with the help of some locals, found the huge sink hole known as Wondergat - we were thrilled." See all these reviews: 13n in Namibia

"Mowani Mountain Camp review"

2 nights Arrived 11 Oct 2009
"This Camp is in a great location but we experienced issues on this camp.

Firstly the drains stank at our tent (no 2). The waiting staff are very willing but generally clueless and need more training. Hoever the most disappointing bit was the Game Drive. Activity 1 to Twyfelfontein was very interesting. Activity 2 - the game drive was a disaster - the guide pontificated in the early part of the drive only to find he had lost focus and could not find the elephants - who were tracked by his colleague but he did not listen to the whereabouts accurately and we spent ages flying up and down the river bed like lunatics in search of the elelphants - which we eventually found great but at the expense of being able to enjoy the drive. Then as we were so late we rode back to camp at 60kms and you can imagine how little one can see or appreciate at this speed.

We did give our feedback to the Camp on leaving!" See all these reviews: 16n in Namibia

Loved the dancing and singing at dinner - our waiter Epson was lovely.

Didn't take any activities, but on meeting the guide Stuart would imagine they were very good." See all these reviews: 15n in Namibia

"Mowani Mountain Camp review"

2 nights Arrived 20 Sep 2009
"We stayed in Mowani luxury bungalow and loved every minute of our experience here, including the snake and ghekos in our room - it really was luxury including hot water bottles in our beds every night (although it was quite warm), and service that was truly out of this world - the staff were so humble and couldn't do enough for you. The rock and bar for sundowners was so memorable and the staff served drinks and wonderful canapes.

We went on the desert elephant trekiking trip and eventually found elephants - great experience.

When we came to leave we had moved our car to the entrance and while we were paying our bill another member of staff took it on himself to wash our hire car - real service and he didn't expect any more money (but we gave him something towards his own car fund) I can't speak to highly of Mowani." "Mowani Mountain Camp review"

2 nights Arrived 5 Jul 2009
"What first struck us about Mowani is how the facility was built so that it blends into the environment, complementing the beauty of the landscape that surrounds it.

The highlight of our stay was most certainly the desert adapted elephant tour. Our guide Stuart, while relatively new to being a guide, did a nice job locating the elephants and providing us plenty of viewing time. He also made it a point to share information with us about plants, etc...

We also participated in the Twyfelfontein tour that included stops at the Organ Pipes and Burnt Mountain. While these are easily accessible by your own vehicle we recommend the tour if you want a little more information and don't care to make the drive on your own. On the camp grounds there was a nice self-guided trail, it was well marked and had an information sheet with points of interested to stop and look at along the way. It took approximately one hour and was a nice activity after our morning game drive.

While Mowani was one of the larger camps we stayed at and it was full when we were there, we felt like we were well taken care of and looked after. Being vegetarian they had prepared sundowner snacks especially for us, which were wonderful. In addition, they fixed a slow leak on one of our tires.

Mowani hands down had the best "sundowner" viewpoint of any place we stayed. To add to our viewing pleasure great snacks and comfortable seating was provided." See all these reviews: 13n in Namibia; 5n in Botswana
