"Kicheche Walking Wilderness review"
The 'fly camp' set up is amazing. It was set up the day of our visit. We had a decent sized tent, there is a long drop toilet, bucket shower and a mess area. Food was brought in from Valley Camp and heated over a wood camp fire where we ate with our guide Johnson, a trainee manager Ester, and other staff at the camp. It was a very enjoyable evening.
The walk gave the opportunity for Johnson to explain about some of the vegetation, medical uses of plants, identify animal droppings etc! A very friendly armed ranger also walked with us. Unfortunately we did not see much wildlife on the walk.
We would certainly recommend the activity as a break from game drives and some exercise to work off some of the great food!" See all these reviews: 14n in Kenya
"An authentic adventure in Kenya "
We started with a bush walk accompanied by Paul and Peter ( an armed ranger) . While walking , you are totally attuned to your surroundings and to the wildlife that is curiously looking at you. We arrived at the camp that had been set up by the staff of Kicheche Valley and were hosted by Esther, Keke and Julius(?) . We had a dome tent with comfortable and warm cot beds. Washroom facilities consist of washbasins, bucket shower tent and drop loo tent. A campfire is lit up and sundowners and dinner were served : soup, stew, ugali and baked potato. Delicious!
During the night , lions were active in the vicinity of the camp but we enjoyed the thrill of it. The next morning we went on a morning drive before breakfast in the Naibosho Conservancy . Fly camping is really a not to be missed experience. It is comfortable in its simplicity, totally authentic and far from anybody else." See all these reviews: 8n in Kenya

We felt very safe with Johnson our guide and Peter the ranger.
Walking into flycamp at dusk and seeing the campfire was a magical experience that will stay with us for a long time.
The tents were very comfortable and the bush shower was perfect." See all these reviews: 8n in Kenya
"Kicheche Walking Wilderness review"
Despite passing close to some buffalo at one point we felt very safe in the company of Johnson and Peter.
The fly camp was very comfortable with water provided for a bucket shower as well as a long drop loo. The food was perfect for an evening in the bush and it was interesting to see it being cooked on the fire. We slept very well.
On the way into Kicheche Bush Camp the next morning we passed a local village and watched as the cattle were driven out to graze, which highlighted the balance between wildlife conservation and local needs which the conservancies have to manage.
Since the fly camp is no longer half way between the two camps the afternoon walk might be off-putting if the weather is particularly hot, which is a shame. We thoroughly enjoyed it but Kicheche Valley camp were trying to talk us out of doing the full walk from the moment we arrived in camp. We were glad we were not deterred. The pleasure the guides take from being able to do the walking and share more of their knowledge rather than sitting in a vehicle for a change is great to experience.
The site of the camp itself was lovely - a beautiful secluded spot not far from the river and the walk in the morning was much more varied." See all these reviews: 8n in Kenya

The game viewing experience was not really any different from how it would have been on a game drive." See all these reviews: 10n in Kenya
"Kicheche Walking Wilderness review"
We were a little unlucky with the weather. We walked about 10km on easy terrain with our guide Charles and an armed ranger. Heavy rain then came down and Johnson in a support vehicle came charging up to us to drive us the final 3km to the camp. During the walk we looked at tracks, bones, bird eggs, plants with Charles. At a distance we saw numerous plains game, buffalo and hyena.
The camp consisted of a two person dome tent with two cot beds, a covered area for eating in due to the bad weather, a toilet tent with a short drop toilet and a bucket shower tent. Due to a massive storm that came through we couldn't sit by the fire which was a shame but were still served a three course dinner. On arrival there was prosecco waiting for us (as honeymooners) and Johnson spoke at length with us about the conservancy, Masaai culture etc which was very interesting to hear. We got a good nights sleep in the very comfortable bedding listening to the storm hammer down outside. It was made clear to us that we could return to the Bush Camp at any time if the weather was too much for us.
After a 6.30am wake up we had cold breakfast watching giraffe in the distance before walking back to Kicheche Bush camp.
As keen walkers we were keen to do some walking on this holiday and I would recommend it. It is different to walking in the likes of Zimbabwe where there is a focus on walking close to big game. On this walk close proximity to big game is avoided and the focus is more on the little things. The terrain was boggy in places from the rain but easily passable and anyone who has walked at all in the likes of Dartmoor or the Lake District will find it no challenge at all. The pace is gentle.
We enjoyed it hugely and it made a nice change from game drives with an opportunity to stretch our legs a little." See all these reviews: 7n in Kenya

It rained so hard the night before the camp managers felt it would be too difficult in the mud. Plus it appeared it would rain more.
We agreed with them and stayed at Kicheche Bush camp that day." See all these reviews: 12n in Tanzania; 10n in Rwanda; 8n in Kenya

While walking, we were able to see things that we wouldn't have been able to from the safari vehicle.
Additionally, it was really fun to sit around the campfire with our guide that night." See all these reviews: 7n in Tanzania; 5n in Zanzibar; 5n in Kenya
"The trek and Fly camp are highly recommended"
Peter the armed ranger is good company as is Bernard my guide and Johnson who supervises everything at Fly camp with pride and attention to detail. Fly camp has moved to a slightly different location from last year but it is just as magical.
The level of comfort is inevitably slightly more limited but not the food, A great night out in the truest possible sense!" See all these reviews: 12n in Kenya
