"Stunning views at Muchenje Safari Lodge"

2 nights Arrived 18 Aug 2010
"The activities were great, the guides were very good.

The managers were a little too regimented wanting us to eat lunch and then go on a game drive before seeing our rooms. We were allowed to go to our rooms, first when several of us who arrived at the same time, insisted.

The lodge and the views were very good." See all these reviews: 6n in Namibia; 2n in Botswana; 2n in Zambia

"Excellent the way that they taylored the people we went out with. Noe was great guide and spent lots of time getting us to reognise birds

A swimming pool big enough to swim real laps would be nice as there is no exercise on the safari" See all these reviews: 12n in Botswana

"Ideal lodge for chobe riverfront"

2 nights Arrived 26 Oct 2009
"Muchenje has a spectacular location over the chobe floodpains to namibia - probably the best lodge setting in or around chobe NP. For those that worry about its remote location to the west this is the lodges greatest asset. The west of the NP is more remote, has a wilder feel and in our opinion is more scenic than in the east. The game densities seemed at least as high as further east yet the vehicular densities were very low - and indeed the only other vehicles we saw were from muchenje until well east of Ihaha.

Muchenje take their game viewing activities both seriously and enthusiastically and pack a lot into a day if you want it - not only in quantity but quality. The guiding is to a very high standard. (we had Lips and presley who were excellent ) We were particularly impressed with the way the full day was planned - an early morning drive 5.30 - 9.00 so as not to miss any early morning action at the riverfront then breakfast back at the lodge and out 10.30 for the journey to the boat trip. The rendevous with the boat at 12 is perfectly timed to have 3-4 hours of the best bit of the river for action to yourself with families of elephant coming to drink and cross to namibia. The 3-4 hour game drive west out of the park back to the lodge completes a true perspective of this part of the chobe riverfront. This dry season a pack of 12 wild dogs has been active along the whole riverfront which has been a bonus for those visiting.

The night drive after dinner - like all night drives is hit and miss - but the lodge has a good little stretch of riverfront and gets good activity there ( a huge herd of bufalo crossing the river and plenty of elephant the night we went and a lion kill occured only a few nights before )

We requested a game drive transfer from the lodge to kasane airfield on our last morning taking breakfast with us which gave us a further opportunity to drive the riverfront almost in its entirety from ngoma to sedudu - this was much appreciated and was terrific - and as ever was provided with support and enthusiasm by the management team.

The lodge is extremely well run and the staff are local and obviously very happy .When we were their one of the lodge owners (sean )was staying - and having spent a couple of days in sean s company it is easy to see where the comfortable atmosphere and positive culture of this lodge emenates from.

The lodge facilities , food and chalet rooms are all to a very high standard - but if you are keen on your game you will not see much of the lodge or your room here.

If I had one suggestion for Sean it would be to provide 2 smaller and faster boats ( the 8 person aluminium ones ) for the boat trip and split the trip group in 2 - this would provide a more intimate river experience which would then match the intimacy of every other aspect and activity that muchenje offers." "Beautiful lodge over looking the flood plains"

2 nights Arrived 26 Sep 2009
"This was a lovely place to spend our first 2 nights in Africa. A beautiful lodge with very friendly and accommodating staff and the manager Rob and his wife Cathy always present to make sure everything was organized and all the guests were happy. Meals were communal which was fine with a self-service main meal of meat and vegetables. Breakfast was also very good with plenty of fresh fruit and eggs done to your liking!!

The rooms are very comfortable with big beds good mosquito nets and shower facilities. The view was wonderful, with all the rooms looking out over the flood plains. If we had had more time, just a day to sit outside our room and watch the animals from there roaming around would have been lovely too.

The game drives were well organized and we saw so many animals. The guides knew the tracks so well, but there was always a mad rush at the end of each day to get out of the park before the gates closed at 6.30pm!! I'm sure this was done just to add to the excitement!! We had a lovely walk one morning with a guide called JJ who showed us various animal tracks and plants and we were lucky to be crossed by a herd of 200-300 Zebras.

The boat trip was also very special, which involved a long drive (70Km) on tarmac road towards Kasane and then another few kilometres across the bush onto the boat which took us down the Chobe River. We were able to spend ages just watching the elephants crossing the river from Botswana into Namibia, and picnic lunch with the Hippo's nearby. The lunch is not that brilliant but when you are hungry it's edible; (not a complaint just a comment)." See all these reviews: 8n in Namibia; 8n in Botswana; 1n in South Africa

"Muchenje Safari Lodge review"

2 nights Arrived 3 Aug 2009
"Great place and a nice range of activities. We appreciated they cleaned our hired car and gave us an extra attention in our room for our honeymoon.

I couldn't help the feeling that we "connected" less to the managers and many other guests, perhaps their concern was more on spoiling and luxurious feel than on experiencing nature. The guide for the morning walk was the best! Also the night drive was very nice." See all these reviews: 17n in Namibia; 2n in Botswana; 2n in Zambia

"Muchenje Safari Lodge review"

3 nights Arrived 22 Jul 2009
"Absolutely Delightful! Excellent views and lovely chalet. the lodge so lovely that we opted out of activities one day so that we could enjoy it. Could have stayed much longer. On arrival we were welcomed, given drinks and a buffet lunch of chicken pie and we wondered how this could be improved on. It was!

Loads and loads of wildlife in the park itself and around the lodge, but the night drives a bit naff! Vast herds of elephant, hippos and giraffe. Hoards of birds on the river got twitchers over-excited.

Welcoming, helpful, convivial managersand staff and excellent guides (BG, but also JJ who made himself available for a morning walk) who made the most of the opportunities around Chobe.

A fabulous place - even saw a honey badger on BGs' "short cut" - which should be compulsory!" See all these reviews: 12n in Zambia; 3n in Botswana
