Verney's Camp

Verney's Camp: Our full report

Verney's Camp is a new property, opened in May 2018, based on a private concession within the borders of ...

... Hwange National Park. The camp aims to offer a classic safari experience in a wildlife rich but isolated area of this remote national park.

Located in the heart of Hwange National Park, Verney's sits on the fringes of one of the teak forests characteristic of this southern end if the park, looking out over a small grassy plain and highly productive waterhole. The ten large, green canvas tents are shaded by the teak trees, with the design making plentiful use of natural wood giving them the feeling of a luxurious explorers camp. Each of the rooms are well equipped with en-suite showers and flush toilets.

Operated by Machaba Safaris, Verney's Camp will act as a sister property to Machaba Camp, Little Machaba and Gomoti Plains Camp in Botswana, which we have visited previously and hugely enjoyed. Verney's Camp is matching in style to these camps, offering affordable luxury in the heart of the bush.

Although we have yet been able to visit the camp, we are very familiar with the location of the park where Verney's Camp is located, and it's one of the best wildlife areas in Hwange. The camp should be able to offer some fantastic game viewing, either while out on activities or at the waterhole located in front of the camp. The activities on offer will be game drives and walking safaris with armed guides, and the 10,000 hectare private concession that surrounds the camp will also allow for night drives and stargazing in the evenings.

Our view

We've been thoroughly impressed with our experiences at Machaba Safaris properties in Botswana, and although we haven't been able to visit their new property in Zimbabwe, initial feedback suggests that it is very much in line with it's sister properties, and we look forward to visiting the camp soon.
