Tum Tum Treehouses Lodge: Our full report

Opening in Zimbabwe’s Hwange National Park in late 2025 is Tum Tum Treehouses Lodge.

With just four tree-top tents, and a further two at ground level, it will certainly be individual; even the name is evocative!

We have yet to visit the new lodge, but we are familiar with its sister camps, Bomani, Camelthorn, Jozibanini and Nehimba, also in Hwange, and are very confident that it will meet their high standards.

No more than 12 guests will be able to stay at Tum Tum, in just six rooms. Four of these are their innovative tree-top tents, set up on a wooden platform amidst teak and camelthorn trees. Reached by wooden steps, they will be constructed of wood and canvas, with en-suite bathrooms at the same level, and a private deck that will give a unique perspective on wildlife wandering through below.

A further two ground-floor rooms can be combined if required, making them suitable for a family – as well as those who don’t have a head for heights.

Game drives and bush walks will be at the heart of activities at the new camp, but more thrilling for most is the opportunity to walk with white rhinos at the nearby Mlevu Sanctuary, where they have been re-introduced onto community land. In turn, the fees from these walks benefit several local villages, which guests at Tum Tum may also visit.

Our view

Although Tum Tum is new to us, we are very familiar with Hwange National Park, and are excited to watch this innovative project come to fruition. We are also confident that it will match the standards of its siblings in Hwange, and look forward to visiting it as soon as it is open.
