"A stay at Zanzibar Palace Hotel"

2 nights Arrived 29 Sep 2008
"We found it a unique experience to stay at the Zanzibar Palace Hotel in the heart of Stonetown. You are woken shortly after 4a.m. with the calls to prayer from the many mosques in the area. A walking tour of Stonetown with a guide is to be recommended.

The hotel provides good accomodation but the evening meals could be improved.

We experienced a problem in that our voucher from you stated half board whilst the booking by Fisherman Travel was only for B & B. Staff at the hotel said that this was happening frequently and when we came to settle our bill they tried to include the price of evening meals until we pointed out again what are terms were.

For anyone visiting this area we would mention that many people try to get you to offer them a tip, even the staff at the security machine in Dar es Salaam airport." See all these reviews: 7n in Tanzania; 2n in Zanzibar

"Zanzibar Palace"

2 nights Arrived 24 Sep 2008
"Again we received a very warm welcome from the manager who was also most informative about Stone Town.

After staying in such attractive locations for the previous days, we found the contrast noticable, as the hotel is in a dusty town street and our our outlook was onto walls opposite. We found our room to be a little dark.

We dined in both evenings and found the meals delicious being served by a most charming young woman.

A problem had occured the day that we arrived with the access. Bollards had appeared making it impossible for taxis to drive to the hotel, necessitating a walk of about 100 m. This was not a problem for us, but others may find it so." See all these reviews: 7n in Tanzania; 5n in Zanzibar

"Great room with a view!"

1 night Arrived 25 Aug 2008
"We found the owner of the Zanzibar Palace really helpful, by providing us with a map of Stowntown with some points of interest and nice places to eat. We also really liked the hotel - it was quirky, and our suite had great views across the rooftops.

We were recommended to eat at the Beyt Al Chai, which was a great call as the food there was fantastic - to a level you would expect to find at a high class restaurant in the UK - and really reasonable. It was also a lot quieter than what seemed to be the usual place to eat - Emerson and Green, so was a really nice end to our honeymoon." See all these reviews: 6n in Tanzania; 6n in Zanzibar

"Zanzibar Palace Hotel"

2 nights Arrived 27 Jul 2008
"We all loved this hotel as it was exactly what we were looking for.

The rooms and bathrooms were beautiful, decorated in Arabic style.

The staff were excellent and full of information about the local area, including booking us a local guide who took us around the whole of Stone Town.

We didn't eat here as we wanted to sample local food in town, but breakfast was great." See all these reviews: 7n in Tanzania; 7n in Zanzibar

"Zanzibar Palace, Stonetown"

1 night Arrived 11 Jul 2008
"What an incredible place! Just one night here so that we were close to the airport to catch our flight at 0600. We had a short walk in Stonetown but because we got lost so quickly felt a little intimidated. We didn't have time to get used to the difference from the resort and didn't give it a proper chance.

The hotel staff and accommodation were very good." See all these reviews: 7n in Tanzania; 1n in Zanzibar

"Zanzibar Palace Hotel is highly recommended"

3 nights Arrived 5 Jul 2008
"We very much enjoyed our three nights stay at the Zanzibar Palace Hotel. Breakfast was elaborate and delicious, and we all agreed that dinner at the hotel was by far the best food we had in Stone Town.

We appreciated the location which was an easy walk to shops, restaurants and other attractions.

The climb to the top floor was a bit much for mom and dad but the room was lovely when we got there! We really appreciated the willingness of the staff to carry our luggage up and down!" See all these reviews: 9n in Zanzibar

"Zanzibar Palace Hotel review"

2 nights Arrived 20 Feb 2008
"We stayed for two nights at the Zanzibar Palace and would utterly recommend it to anyone wishing to stay in Stone Town. However, we should stress that we stayed in the Dunia suite, which offers a lovely air-conditioned bedroom, plus stairs to an open-air bathroom and sun-deck right on the roof. This provides fabulous views over the city, with a view straight out to sea for the sunset, and mosques all around to hear the "call to prayer" each evening. Above all else, the sun-deck is cool and breeezy, and believe me, you will appreciate cool and breezy after a few hours on the streets of the city itself!

The hotel is beautifully decorated and run in a very friendly fashion. Breakfasts are lovely and there is a cosy (air-conditioned!) bar to have an evening drink, although again we were lucky enough to enjoy our sundowners on our roof terrace. The hotel is also well-located in terms of getting around the maze of streets in Stone Town, not least because it's quite close to the sea and therefore easy to find!" "Beautifully restored, individual hotel"

2 nights Arrived 12 Oct 2007
"Sebastiaan and Marion have done an excellent job restoring this hotel and have managed to offer something very unique and special. We had one night each in the Dunia and Sherali suites and each was very special in its own way.

Sebastiaan and Marion went out of their way to make things run smoothly for us and made some excellent suggestions for places to eat. We had a lovely meal in the rooftop restaurant of Emerson & Green hotel on our last night, which was very atmospheric and good fun - particularly as Stonetown were celebrating the end of Ramadam.

I would recommend this hotel for individuality, quality and service. However, I did feel that the location was a little out of it. It was quite a lonely walk back in the evenings and most of the activity seemed to be going on around the waterfront - not far away but you had to go down a number of small, quiet alleyways."
