"Kakuli Bushcamp review"

2 nights Arrived 30 Jun 2008
"Kakuli was our least favourite bush camp though the standards were as high as elsewhere. We were least impressed with hostess, Lucinda, here and also the guide, Aubrey, who although knowledgeable was less engaging than the other guides.

The "sundowners" on the last evening on the dry river bed was a nice touch." See all these reviews: 10n in Zambia

"Impressive River Landscapes and Water Birds"

2 nights Arrived 28 Oct 2007
"Our reed and thatch chalet at Kakuli was at the edge of the low cliff fronting on to the Luangwa River. This gave us lots of opportunities to watch the birds in the nearby trees and on the water and sand banks, as well as the hippos and crocodiles in the river. There were many spoonbills and yellow billed storks and we were fascinated to watch a pied kingfisher as it hovered over the water and dived vertically to catch its prey.

Our walks and drives at Kakuli provided many varied sightings of wildlife, including following a track which led us to a snake marooned on a sandbank and in danger from the heat of the sun. Aubrey, our guide, carried it on his stick to safety. We liked the impressive river landscapes – there was always so much to see and to learn. The night drives were very rewarding too with a lot of lion and two hyenas removing a leg from a buffalo killed earlier by lions.

Unfortunately the toilet broke down in our chalet on the first evening. We were impressed by the way in which a temporary arrangement was made for the night and that we were then transferred with no fuss to another chalet the following morning without any such request on our part." "Kakuli Bushcamp review"

3 nights Arrived 23 Oct 2007
"Laura and Aubrey were good host/guide.

The problem here was the weather. It was extremely windy every afternoon and the tent was not anchored down sufficiently so all the furniture - with our things on it blew over and the tent had to be held down with a tractor wheel part. That said, Laura made sure that the tent was swept of sand and everything put right." See all these reviews: 12n in Zambia

"Kakuli was the best part of our holiday"

2 nights Arrived 24 Jul 2007
"It was a beautiful drive from Kapani to Kakuli Bushcamp and we were driven by Rosy the only female guide (what an achievement).

We loved Kakuli, we were in a basic tent but we had the luxury of a bed and our own bathroom. open to the sky (great fun). We enjoyed our stay here the most out of our three stops. We loved the fact that you felt more a part of the bush ,we were alongside water at each camp, here we were were amazed at the numbers of hippo's and could watch the monkeys on the far side of the water as well as many birds. I did not realise were would see so many beautiful birds. We also had a fantastic early morning wake up one day by the lions talking to each other as they paced back and forth right past our tent.

The staff welcomed us and after leaving us to settle in had lunch with us, even though it was just us at the camp for lunch what a spread, it was wonderful. We were soon relaxed and enjoyed every minute and loved gathering around the camp fire for breakfast. Our guide Lawrence was quite a character he obviously lived for the bush and made us feel very welcome and taught us so much.

I was very aprehensive about doing a walking safari but thoroughly enjoyed it, looking out for tracks and learning so much about the animals diets etc.

We walked from here to Mchenja Bushcamp." See all these reviews: 10n in Zambia
