ape own to Namibia trip : Aug - Sep 2022
Namibia and 1 other country between 17 Aug 2022 and 11 Sep 2022
Overall driving distance was about 4,250km so it was a tough schedule, but everything we expected (and a quite a bit more).
Managed to see and pass through stunning scenery, stop at interesting places and observe a variety of wildlife from Southern Right whales in South Africa to the big cats in Namibia, not to mention the magnificent seasonal flora on display in the Namaqualand.
Everything was in place for us so minimising hassle."

Canyon Village
"Canyon Village review"
The hotel and staff were excellent and rooms were clean and functional. The site with the semi-detached cabin rooms set in desert grounds with swimming pool and main hotel buildings was well laid out and enabled a bit of privacy.
Main lodge building was ideal place to have meals and chill with a cold drink"

Namtib Desert Lodge
"Namtib Desert Lodge review"
Once at the lodge there are marked walking trails where you may spot other wildlife - we saw the resident Klipspringers. The drive north from the lodge (to Sossosvlei) is through the Namib-Naukluft NP, with plenty of stunning views and wildlife (not included in the log as outside of lodge reserve).
Lovely styled bungalow accommodation set near to the al fresco honesty bar terrace and the dining area. Excellent food prepared by the hosts and evening dining is for both them and the guests together, so conversation flows until the last person retires for the night."

Dead Valley Lodge
"Dead Valley Lodge review"
Modern and open, the staff are very helpful, the rooms are stunning/excellent and the food well prepared and varied. Easy to organise a guided tour to Sossusvlei/Deadvlei which is recommended if you want to see the key sights and get the most from the park as some areas are only accessible by rugged 4x4 or park provided transportation.
Perfectly sized lodge with limited numbers - so no crowds"

Cornerstone Guesthouse
"Cornerstone Guesthouse review"
Hosts are attentive and helpful - especially with dining suggestions - The Jetty is only a 5-10 minute walk and serves a good variety of food for evening meals.
Excellent location so easy to walk to most areas within the town and safe so walking at night is not a real issue.
Secure parking and helpful/friendly staff"

Ai Aiba Lodge
"Ai Aiba Lodge review"
Excellent lodge cabins and restaurant. Staff were excellent - very attentive and helpful.
The (young) Eland we saw was in fact the food for a resident leopard that was being stored up a tree - unfortunately no direct leopard sighting, but they are there"

Okaukuejo Camp
"Okaukuejo Camp review"
Rooms are good but tired. We had a waterhole side bungalow, spread over 2 stories with a good partial view of the waterhole from the first floor balcony. However, water supply to the first floor shower was none existent, meaning the shower unit was unusable and required use of the downstairs bedroom shower (which if any party apart from a family group was staying there could present difficulties). Numerous lights were also out. Minor points possibly but if the stay was for more than a night could prove irritating.
Other camp facilities were average and check-in laborious and long if there happens to be a queue.
.....but location and wildlife viewing trumps all this and a few inconveniences are, from our perspective, more than offset by watching 4 Black Rhino at the waterhole for a few hours in the middle of the night"

Mushara Lodge
"Mushara Lodge review"
Convenient for the National Park through the Eastern gate. The lodge provided game drives are well worth the additional and reasonable cost, so leave your car behind - the ranger/guide (Imelda) is excellent and has a good network of fellow drivers in the Park to optimise game viewing. We saw a pride of lions stalking an Eland and to follow that a Leopard in daylight (!) observing and stalking zebra/springbok. This plus many others which to be honest would be missed if self driving.
Food is excellent and the lodge small enough to give an intimate feel to the stay - would definitely return here should we be lucky enough to visit the area again. Thoroughly recommended"

Okonjima Plains Camp
"Okonjima Plains Camp review"
Drives into the outer reserve with the knowledgeable trackers/guides are fun and often result in the sighting of leopard and the night drives give a different perspective of the environment.
Cheetah are seen but these are held in large enclosures within the inner reserve as they are rescued animals that cannot be released into the wild."

River Crossing
"River Crossing review"
We had booked a nature drive, which upon arrival were informed had been cancelled due to the need for a game control exercise.
We were not pre-warned of this which was a disappointment as we could have extended a morning/afternoon stay at previous lodge and had an additional game drive there."
Requires car/taxi to get to anywhere central as it is located in an upmarket suburb behind Table Mountain....however very near the cricket ground!"
