"Tanzania in the (very) Wet Season"

1 night Arrived 12 Feb 2016
"Good morning transfer from airport after a nightmare getting visas!! The hotel was a perfect place to overnight before our onward journey.

In a very tranquil setting yet reasonably close to airport this hotel was staffed by very pleasant and helpful staff.

Our room was good though, perhaps,a little 'tired' but the hotel was undergoing a major makeover so this minor fault is being addressed. The air conditioning had a slight odour but this was also being sorted during the renovations.

We enjoyed a very good meal sitting on the terrace beside the swimming pool

We would definitely use the Southern Sun Dar again." See all these reviews: 12n in Tanzania

"Southern Sun Dar review"

1 night Arrived 3 Feb 2016
"Oh dear, this was a bit of a disaster. They were undertaking major repairs - fair enough, but unfortunately put us in a room in the middle of the renovations which were still going strong at 5pm. It was just banging, more disconcerting was the fact that there was an internal shute for the rubbish which was inside a wall adjacent to our room, so there was some fairly violent rumbling of garbage every couple of minutes. Oh and the room stank - it was musty and awful - no doubt the reason for the renovation.

We zipped over to the Hyatt Regency, had a lovely drink on the roof and then went to a local BBQ restaurant for dinner, so not all was lost." See all these reviews: 7n in Tanzania; 6n in Zambia; 5n in Botswana; 3n in Rwanda; 1n in South Africa

"Greta overnight stop"

1 night Arrived 17 Oct 2015
"We were recommended this hotel by Expert Africa but frankly were able to book a room on line ourselves at a very much reduced cost and Liz Wollen was fine about that.
Very warm welcome ,lovely ambiance ,clean and comfortable . There was a nice shop but not open while we were there .We thought we might have to skip breakfast because of an early start but as the very comprehensive and delicious breakfast starts at 4.30 am there was no problem.

It was a Sunday morning when we left and traffic was minimal so it only took 20 minutes to the domestic airport .It would take much longer on a working day." See all these reviews: 10n in Tanzania

"Overnight stop"

1 night Arrived 21 Sep 2015
"Difficult to comment in detail as we were only in the hotel for about 9 hours as an overnight stop.

However the staff were very welcoming with a cold drink, and friendly throughout our visit. The room was comfortable(the bathroom miniature products were very nice).Had a view over Botanical Garden. Breakfast was an interesting & very varied buffet with sweet and savoury options(eggs cooked to order), well presented.

Didn't get an opportunity to use the pool or dining room.

A long way from the airport so had a very early start to get back for our flight-but needed a lot of time due to crazy traffic. Didn't see any hotels any nearer the airport though. Fascinating, "no rules"driving!" See all these reviews: 6n in Zanzibar; 4n in Tanzania

"The room was dark, damp and smelled musty. The bed felt damp and cold. I have asthma and I coughed constantly. The carpet was dirty.

I definitely would not recommend this hotel. It was a bad start to our holiday." See all these reviews: 4n in Tanzania; 3n in Zanzibar

"Arrival overnight stop"

1 night Arrived 15 Sep 2015
"We stayed at Southern Sun for our first night in Tanzania. We arrived at 10PM and left the next morning at 6.30AM so we did not had time to really look around.

We had a light dinner on the terrace. The food was fine but nothing special.

Good and spacious hotel with comfortable rooms." See all these reviews: 14n in Tanzania

"Good location, clean hotel, friendly staff"

1 night Arrived 12 Sep 2015
"Great location; not far from the sea as well as the museum and other touristy places to check out.

The staff were extremely amicable and our room and the venue quite clean.

Average food at the restaurant, not exactly traditional if that is what you're looking for." See all these reviews: 6n in Tanzania; 5n in Zanzibar
