"Various items that we requested failed to appear, and the house keeping was haphazard.

Having said that, we had a good meal in the evening and a good night's sleep. Our very early transfer to the airport delivered us there about three hours before necessary - which meant a really early breakfast.

"We stayed here for one night before starting our safari. We arrived about 10 in the morning and were greeted with a cold drink. Our room was ready so we went straight up. The room was very comfortable with everything we wanted and more. We used the pool which was lovely and ate in the brasserie where the food and service were very good. We had breakfast at 5.45am the following morning and it was excellent - so much choice.

"We arrived fairly late in the evening and received a welcoming beverage and attentive staff to help us get checked in and assistance to our room. It was spacious, spotless, quiet and had fabulous beds and linens for a great night's sleep. Breakfast was delicious, with plenty of fresh choices and offered both an inside and outside seating option. We sat outside enjoying the warm fresh air overlooking the lovely garden.

The hotel concierge arranged a guide for us to tour the city and made some helpful suggestions as to places we might like to visit and some dining options as well. We had a fantastic day touring the city although I would recommend if anyone plans to visit the actual fish market, which was very busy and interesting, there is an expectation that all visitor sign in the market office upstairs on arrival. Our guide had to pay a fee as well and it was not clear why this happened.

We really enjoyed all the markets we visited and felt perfectly safe with our guide. We took the concierge recommendation for dinner and ate at a restaurant called the Fish Market. We enjoyed fresh sushi in a beautiful setting overlooking the water.

"My husband and I and two girls aged 13 and 11 were so tired after our flight from the UK. Southern Sun Dar was perfect for an overnight stay.

Staff very friendly and we were greeted with a lovely cool bottle of water each. Clean, air conditioned rooms with everything you might need at your fingertips. Dinner was good and there was a wide choice at breakfast.

"Having arrived mid afternoon in Dar Es Salaam, we transferred to the Southern Sun for an overnight stay prior to our early morning flight to Selous Game Reserve. We were warmly greeted at the hotel with welcome drinks and shown to our room which was spacious, comfortable and quiet.Our evening meal in the hotel restaurant, offered a reasonably priced varied menu with friendly prompt service. The hotel provides a full comprehensive breakfast service from 04.00 am, which met our requirements perfectly, prior to our early morning transfer to Dar Es Salaam domestic terminal, and our onward flight to Selous. "As this was a transfer solution - arriving late from overseas and needed one night before the domestic flight early next morning, nothing special to mention, We have used this hotel before and meet and greet is very good, rooms are spacious and breakfast gives you what you need before the next step. Arriving late Sunday was fine as there was very little traffic, other times traffic from airport to downtown Dar can be congested - hopefully better when the fly over bridge from the harbour is completed."
