"Yet again an excellent location and a restful visit after a busy tourin experience in South Africa.

Fidney, the Major Domo who met us on arrival could not have been more helpful and saw to our every need. The rest of the staff were equally helpful and here too we had our car washed daily!

Rooms were very good and it was an excellent base for visiting the De Hoop Nature Reservation.

"Very easy to find, again great directions, a beautifully restored old house.

In a very quiet part of Swellendan, but with restaurants nearby if you wished to eat out from the hotel.

"We'd had a question mark over this one before we arrived. ....I don't know why. It was a treat. Lots of effort was made to do the best they possibly could for the guests. We were extremely well looked after.

We ate in on the first night - and didn't bother to do otherwise the next night; it was excellent. The dining room is airy and very attractive. It looked beautifully fresh for breakfast. The car was washed each morning.

The rooms are comfortable and well-appointed (but don't expect to be in the house itself); they are set in quiet, attractive gardens. Swellendam was a pleasant little town. I enjoyed the museum. We forgot to go to the Faerie Glen. Damn.

"Although the accomodation was good, it did not live up to our expectations compared with the other places we stayed. Although the school house itself is old, the accomodation itself is a relatively newly built complex, behind the main house. The restaurant is a conservatory built at the side of the old house. It would have been lovely to have seen a bit more of the old school itself.

We had read good reports about the restaurant and we're hoping to eat there, but unfortunately it was not open that evening. We were recommended local restaurants but the choice within walking distance was limited (we enjoy a glass of wine and will not drive).

"This was our first visit and we loved it. The team were really friendly, our family suite delightful and the pool refreshing (it was over 35 degrees centigrade in early April.....). The food was delicious - and the afternoon tea a treat.
