"Educational and exhilarating - what a day !"
15 Jun 2013
"On our trip to Sandwich Harbour we were lucky enough to have Bruno Nebe all to ourselves for the day. And what a day - the driving was exhilarating, the wildlife was fascinating, and the views from the top of the dunes by the sea were spectacular. And all this came with Bruno's good company and intimate knowledge of the natural history and cultural history of Namibia. Oh - and a delicious spread of home-cooked food for lunch."

"Fantastic Day trip to Sandwich Harbour!"
Based at Beach Lodge on 14 Jun 2013
"This really was the most superb experience. We were fortunate to have the owner Bruno as our guide/driver and we really benefited hugely not only from his vast knowledge of wildlife and the area but also his great skill at driving across the sand dunes!! Terrific fun.
We noted 31 different kinds of birds & saw many Jackal & Springbok. At lunch time we were driven to the top of a sand dune and provided with an excellent lunch.
There were many highlights on our trip to Namibia and this one certainly stands out as unforgettable." Read more about this whole safari

"Sandwich Harbour - a day in the dunes"
Based at Cornerstone Guesthouse on 12 Mar 2013
"A marvellous day with driver and guide Ernest who was unbelievably knowledgeable and so obviously passionate about the geology, birds, flora and fauna of this beautiful area. We were taken on a 3 hour walk through the (muddy) lagoon and dunes and the drive to Sandwich along the beach and back through the dunes (necessitated by high tide) was simply stunning. Whilst the excellent picnic lunch had to be taken in a wind-sheltered hollow rather than on top of a dune which Ernest would have preferred in less windy conditions, it was still a memorable meal.
Whilst the trip appears to be relatively expensive, the personal nature of it, attention to detail and the wonderful location make it unmissable if staying in Swakopmund for a few days." Read more about this whole safari

"Sandwich Harbour was interesting"
Based at Lagoon Lodge on 18 Nov 2012
"Pick up time was delayed twice and then Ernst arrived late. We understood that he had to pick up others in Swakopmund but we did not appreciate how many others there would be. In addition, our first stop was 300 metres down the road to see the flamingoes (we had just been walking down there earlier that same morning) and to visit the toilets !
By the time we then left, it was at least 10.30 a.m. - two hours later than our original pick up time. The visit to the former Sandwich Harbour was very good. However, lunch was late and on a sand dune swept by the wind - why could we not have been down by the water out of the wind ?
Our guide, Ernst had gone to ask about some fresh fish from the fishermen. So sadly, it was disappointing. Is it wise to mix guests from Swakopmund and those from Walvis Bay who have already seen the flamingoes - all the time." Read more about this whole safari

"Wildlife galore with TurnstoneTours"
Based at Sam's Giardino on 20 Nov 2012
"Ernst Ritter of Turnstone Tours was a most amiable and knowledgable guide for the day. We visited the Township at Walvis Bay and an open air group of women selling various foods, the doughnuts were great.
We saw so much wildlife including a group of jackals, many types of seabird and of course the seals.
Amazing going up and down the dunes in the 4X4, we have the pictures to prove the seemingly impossible steepness of the descents!
Amazing to hear the hum of the sand in the dunes as the 4X4 was descending, engine off and only gravity taking us down in a long slide.
A really great day, highly recommended, not to be missed." Read more about this whole safari

"Sandwich Harbour is not to be missed"
Based at Cornerstone Guesthouse on 7 Oct 2012
"This was one of the highlights of our entire trip. The co-owner, Naude Dreyer, who drove us, is well informed and passionate amateur naturalist, so his knowledge added a lot to the marvelous landscapes we saw. Every moment of the five-plus hours was wonderful. Sandwich Harbour 4 x 4 is highly recommended for this trip."

"Sandwich Harbour tour with Turnstone GREAT"
27 Sep 2012
"The tour to experience Sandwich Harbour was an EXCELLENT EXPERIENCE! This place is beautiful & Turnstone goes out of their way to make this a memorable visit. One thing to keep in mind is that you have to get up early in the morning to be able to get into Sandwich Harbour before high tide cuts out access... Sea level changes & Turnstone called us the night before saying they will pick us up at 6:30am rather than 8am next morning. But then again, the best time of day in Namibia IS early morning & late evening so you get used to getting up early."

"Ernst was brilliant"
Based at Lagoon Lodge on 11 Sep 2012
"The whole trip was brilliant. We spent a lot of time looking at birds, one of our interests, and then the depth of knowledge shown by Ernst of the flora and fauna and the desert itself made the experience on to remember. He even managed to help one of our party slide down the dunes at Sanwich Harbour, something she never dreamt she would do, but loved. All in all a day to remember."
