"Ernst made our trip a wonderful experience - he is not only an extremely skillful driver of his very comfortable land rover, but also a great observer of nature, being extremely knowledgeable and able to spot and explain the tiniest of the many interesting things encountered on the visit. "We enjoyed this trip immensely. Ernst the guide was exceptional as a guide and host - he made the day. We couldn't have had a better guide and he provided a very enjoyable lunch and interesting background information on Namibia as a whole. He went out of his way to ensure we saw Snadwich Bay, digging away sand so we could get through whereas some other guides decided it was too much like hard work and returned home.

"We had a wonderful day out with Ernst. who was very knowledgable about the history of the area and all the wildlife that exists out on the dunes! He did everything, including driving the jeep in bare feet!

"Our Sandwich Harbour excursion with Turnstone Tours was one of the highlights of our trip. What an incredible experience! We enjoyed the undivided attention of owner Bruno and his wonderful son Kai (who was along to learn the family business). The scenery was spectacular (massive dunes, stunning coastline), but what really made the trip was talking to and learning from these two. Even changing a flat tire became a fund adventure. "On our trip to Sandwich Harbour we were lucky enough to have Bruno Nebe all to ourselves for the day. And what a day - the driving was exhilarating, the wildlife was fascinating, and the views from the top of the dunes by the sea were spectacular. And all this came with Bruno's good company and intimate knowledge of the natural history and cultural history of Namibia. Oh - and a delicious spread of home-cooked food for lunch." "This really was the most superb experience. We were fortunate to have the owner Bruno as our guide/driver and we really benefited hugely not only from his vast knowledge of wildlife and the area but also his great skill at driving across the sand dunes!! Terrific fun.

We noted 31 different kinds of birds & saw many Jackal & Springbok. At lunch time we were driven to the top of a sand dune and provided with an excellent lunch.

"A marvellous day with driver and guide Ernest who was unbelievably knowledgeable and so obviously passionate about the geology, birds, flora and fauna of this beautiful area. We were taken on a 3 hour walk through the (muddy) lagoon and dunes and the drive to Sandwich along the beach and back through the dunes (necessitated by high tide) was simply stunning. Whilst the excellent picnic lunch had to be taken in a wind-sheltered hollow rather than on top of a dune which Ernest would have preferred in less windy conditions, it was still a memorable meal.

Whilst the trip appears to be relatively expensive, the personal nature of it, attention to detail and the wonderful location make it unmissable if staying in Swakopmund for a few days." Read more about this whole safari
