"Erongo Wilderness Lodge"

3 nights Arrived 9 Jul 2016
"We were a little sad to driving further south away from Etosha and having had too brief an experience of Okonjima.

The distances in the Bradt Guide to Okonjima and Erongo and incorrect as are some of the figures for Okonjima, I will contact them separately. We arrived in hot conditions at Erongo for three nights and were looking forward to not having to move on quickly. As we had the minibus we could not drive up but were met by very friendly staff who organized everything and drove us up the rock. There was an excellent reception with refreshments and a very knowledgeable and friendly assistant manager.

The tent houses were wonderful. The conditions were quite blustery so at times they were a little noisy at night but this was not a problem. We loved the Flintstone's bathroom! We were a little concerned about all of the steps for my mother who has problems with her knees. As it turned out she managed fine, taking her time to get to the restaurant/pool area and reading books, enjoying the views and wildlife.

The Lodge was excellent. Staff very friendly and helpful, nothing was a bother, the food was superb, we could sit in during the day when it was hot and watch wildlife out the window frames and many birds and a small snake came inside. The crocodile pool was very cold but bracing and refreshing!! We walked some of the signpost trails and out into the surrounding countryside but did not use the guides of the site though we talked a lot to the nature guide about what was around and what we found ourselves.

The site was beautiful, very comfortable, luxurious, great food, great staff - excellent!" See all these reviews: 8n in Namibia

"Dramatic location."

2 nights Arrived 15 Jun 2016
"This was our last night, sufficiently close to Windhoek to get to the airport in time. Part of the drama here is the 4WD approach to the camp (those without 4WD can park at the bottom car park and get a lift to reception.

The environment is very dramatic rocky terrain with tented rooms set on a hillside connected with the restaurant by raised wooden walkways. We took an evening guided trip to view some prehistoric cave paintings with sunset cocktails included. Not many large animals here but we did see dik-dik. Nevertheless guards patrol the camp through the night so there must be some cats about.

The following morning a two hour walk around the camp and to the top of one of the very high surrounding points starting at dawn and back in time for breakfast. A welcome change from being driven everywhere. Bathroom is effectively outside (perfectly private) so pretty chilly early in the morning and shower best used in the late afternoon." "We loved Erongo!"

3 nights Arrived 5 Jun 2016
"Our favourite place. It was very well designed, with a relaxed friendly atmosphere and a stunning view from our very comfortable 'tent'.

The lovely walking trails are well marked with no possibility of getting lost. We preferred to go self-guided and there was no pressure to take a guide (though there seemed to be some surprise that we had gone on the longest trail, said to be 9 k. but we thought it was probably nearer 12k).

Very good food and friendly, unobtrusive service. Worth staying more than 1 night." See all these reviews: 13n in Namibia

"Erongo Wilderness Lodge review"

3 nights Arrived 20 May 2016
"Erongo is situated up the hill well away from any road so it is very peaceful and quiet. The tent cabins at Erongo are nicely situated among large boulders. We had the highest cabin which was quite a climb up a trail but worth it for the beautiful view and it was very private. The tented cabins are lovely with sitting out space where you can watch rock hyrax which were everywhere. We went on a guided morning walk the first day, which I highly recommend. We then walked on our own on very well marked trails The scenery is beautiful.

The lodge is run by a pleasant couple who are very helpful. The staff are friendly although a bit inexperienced. Our food and drink orders got lost a few times but this was cheerfully remedied so it was not a problem.

Food was a bit hit or miss. so I did not rate it as highly as at the other places we stayed. We had an excellent pork chop one night but overcooked rather tired fish the next night. You do get a choice between two items for dinner so I'd suggest avoiding the fish. Each meal starts with a lovely fresh salad which was very enjoyable but the vegetables with the main meal were often overcooked.

But these are not major criticisms and we'd gladly stay here again as we enjoyed the walking and the quiet beauty." See all these reviews: 27n in Namibia

"Wonderful chalet; very special location"

2 nights Arrived 19 Apr 2016
"What a wonderful ending to a very special trip.

The brief but exciting ride into the compound is a great start to a lovely stay. The chalets were just stunning with beautiful views. Great walking trails and lovely staff showing a great sense of teamwork.

Meals were great and served in a lovely spot with an overlook. Very relaxing with a full range of options for activity level.

Our guide was a very personable local man who shared with us a lot of information about the environment and wildlife as well as about his own life story and the culture of the local area. all in all, a great stay." See all these reviews: 12n in Namibia

"Erongo"

2 nights Arrived 15 Apr 2016
"What a place to finish up. Amazing eerie mountains - granite lumps rising out of the bush.

Great drive up - too steep for the car in first gear - the one and only time we needed low range. Great rooms, fantastic views, the sunset over the mountains was hard to beat. Good food, lots to see and rock hyrax a constant background." See all these reviews: 13n in Namibia

"Perfect start of our first Namibia trip"

2 nights Arrived 8 Apr 2016
"This was the perfect place to start our first Namibia experience.

The camp is beautifully situated on a hillside, We stayed in a tent with a fantastic view with sunset, so we could have our own private 'sundowner' for there is even a minibar. The tent is excellently designed, aim to give every possible comfort with a very beautiful bathroom and all practical equipment for our convenience was there. All well maintained, Welcoming, great staff, very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable, everyone, not just the guides.

They all keen to make our stay enjoyable - and it really was. We did two guided walks which were greatly enjoyable as our guide was keen to point out and tell all about the rocks, the plants, the trees and all small and bigger creatures we happened to see. And we did see quite a lot of wonderful birds, quadrupedals, like Dik-diks, Kudus etc. The walks are well designed, perfectly well described, clearly marked out and we found it very easy to follow on the two occasions when we chose to go on our own.

Meals. Their muesli is exceptional and coffee is wonderful (these make at least my day) and so is their full English breakfast. The setting for outdoor dinner is wonderful as the view is over the waterhole which one night had a most beautiful little furry visitor; a larger genet. The dinners were well composed and we had the best cooked game ever here . They even had wine from the nearby Kristall Kellerei which was really great as we could not visit the winery.

We had some nice surprises as we drove through the reserve; lots of giraffs, zebras and springbok sightings." See all these reviews: 8n in Namibia

"Loved it!"

2 nights Arrived 3 Apr 2016
"I'm so glad we stayed here for two nights. The scenery is gorgeous: a rugged, rocky bowl strewn with random boulders. It looks like giants tossed them about.

Much as I enjoy safari outings the lack of exercise can be wearing. Erongo Wilderness Lodge has a number of walks leading from the camp. We did the Sundowner and Baboon walks. Both were of easy to moderate difficulty and had great views at the top.

I also went to Paula's Cave. Saw lots of birds and some animals (baboons, zebra, dikdik) on the drive. The art itself is quite interesting.

The birding was very good with lots of noisy lovebirds flitting about and a number of endemics (Monteiro's hornbill, rock runner, etc). Casually sitting on my deck with ordinary binoculars and a pocket guide I spotted over 20 species.

Speaking of which the views off the deck are spectacular. Absolutely loved the design of this place. Tents were nestled into the rocks and angled away from each other to enhance privacy.

The food was very good and the service friendlier than usual. Walked with Clausus (not entirely sure about his name, he's from the Caprivi area) and he was fun to spend time with.

The pool was a little murky, but they had a severe water shortage. So that's quite understandable." See all these reviews: 16n in Namibia
