Starts: JKI Airport Nairobi
On arrival at the airport, you’ll be greeted by a driver after you’ve collected your bags.
Vehicle & light aircraft from Nairobi to Laikipia
Following a private transfer of about an hour to Wilson Domestic Airport, you'll board a light aircraft for Laikipia, landing at Nanyuki after another hour or so. A guide will meet you for the final hour’s drive through bustling Nanyuki town to Ol Pejeta Conservancy, and on to the Bush Camp.

Ol Pejeta Bush Camp
Ol Pejeta Bush Camp is a simple but smart bush camp on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River in the northern part of the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, in southern Laikipia. The guiding, service, and food are of the same high standard and the camp is located in a good location for wildlife viewing, including both black and white rhinos.

4WD & light aircraft from Laikipia to the Mara
After a game drive to Nanyuki Airport, you’ll take a morning flight of about 90 minutes to the Maasai Mara, possibly stopping at other airstrips along the way. The plane passes over Maasai villages and farmland before arriving into Naboisho Conservancy, to be met by your guide from Encounter Mara.

Encounter Mara
Encounter Mara is a classic tented camp, opened in 2011. It is tucked in a shady forest of orange-leaf croton and Euclea trees on the edge of a vast open plain in the recently created Mara Naboisho Conservancy. There are no permanent structures at the camp and thus never anything but canvas between you and the bush. The camp is comfortable and stylish, however, and certainly aimed at those who appreciate a bit of simple luxury.

"controlled number of vehicles at each sighting which reduces stress on animals.."

Encounter Mara offers a classically simple set-up, with the camp almost hidden amidst a patch of wild bushes and trees that open out onto a well-maintained lawn and decking area overlooking a peaceful salt lick. With its owners having an outstanding reputation for their quality of guiding and seamless operations, we think this a very reasonably priced option and love its delightful bush-camp feel. We feel this is one of the best choices in the Maasai Mara ecosystem if you're looking for a keenly priced yet comfortable camp. See our full report on Encounter Mara
