"Chongwe River Camp review"

5 nights Arrived 23 Oct 2008
"After 5 days at S. Lwangwa National Park where all game drives were by open top truck in hot, dry dusty conditions it was a delight to go to the Zambesi. By this time we had see all the animals many times over. We were ready for another type of adventure and experience. This we get at this camp. We loved being beside the water. Although the same temp.(42C) it was fresher and breezier so felt more refreshing. There was more activities to do. Every day was different, every game drive was different from canoeing to fishing to boat drives, or a combination of all.

The Abida Suite was even better than we had belived possible. Again, like the Lwangwa Safari House I loved the private space it gave us, the freedom it gave us to be a family together and for the boys to jump in/out of the pool without disturbing others, the architecture using local materials and the openness of it to such magnificent scenery. Truly wonderful.

George was our guide for most of the trips and he was fabulous. A real character and a real friend by the end of the trip. First class. He even took us swimming in the Zambesi!

Edward was our waiter and again was magnificent. He was gracious, friendly, polite and and excellent waiter.
Loved this camp. Eat with the main camp on 3 occassions in the evening and we enjoyed the interaction with other guests and staff around the table and fire while having our own privacy when we wanted it." See all these reviews: 10n in Zambia

"Chingwe River Camp Review"

3 nights Arrived 22 Oct 2008
"Our main guide Richman was excellent. He had the difficult task of finding new species of bird that we had not seen at the two previous camps in which he suceeded.

The rest of the aspects were not as good as the two previous camps. The room was basically very good but there were no mossy nets and the use of insect killer was discouraged hence I was bitten a lot. Pre dinner drinks were taken round the camp fire but it was dark and you could not see the other guests and dinner was taken on one long table. Both of these made it difficult to mix with the other guests.

The activity options were not made clear and I had the feeling we were beeing pushed towards those activities that suited the camp rather than the guests. One example was on the final afternoon where we had planned to go fishing we were persuaded to go on a quiet canoe ride to see unusual birds. When we got down to the river there were three other canoes some occupied by children which made for a less than quiet boirdwatching session." See all these reviews: 9n in Zambia

"Chongwe River Camp review"

6 nights Arrived 19 Oct 2008
"This was our third visit to Chongwe. It is the most delightful place. We love the fact that the camp is open and the elephants wander freely through it.

Our guides George and Richman and all the staff treated us royally. For our last three nights we were upgraded and accommodated in the Cassia suite which was delightful. Our thanks to Edward and Given who looked after us there." See all these reviews: 6n in Zambia; 2n in Namibia

"Chongwe River Camp review"

4 nights Arrived 1 Oct 2008
"Again there were many tsetse flies, to such an extent another couple returned early from a game drive. The senior guide made up a concoction to alleviate the bites by cooking a sauasage from a sausage tree. This worked well.

The guide suggested that at our next camp we got a sausage ( this years growth) cut it and wiped it on the bites, which he said would work as nearly as well as his cooked version." See all these reviews: 14n in Zambia

"On the banks of two rivers"

4 nights Arrived 30 Sep 2008
"Splendid tents and wonderful location with elephants visiting much of the time. A fascinationg diversity of activities.

Richman was an absolutely outstanding guide with deep knowledge and a lovely way of telling us about the wilds of Zambia. He enthralled us with his comments about the animals and birds - guides don't come any better whether in a vehicle or a canoe.

Rob and Storm were absolutely outstanding hosts, warm and full of life. We had a wonderful time there and could hardly bear to leave." See all these reviews: 14n in Zambia

"Magical Chongwe"

4 nights Arrived 10 Sep 2008
"This was a really good stay - a great place to add on to a visit to Luangwa as it provided water based activities.

The tents were luxurious and it was good to have a swimming pool. The open lounge and dining area on the river was a lovely place to sit (or lie) and laze after lunch- particularly when the elephants stroll by.

I really cannot fault any aspect - only suggestion would be possibly to add mosquito nets around the beds - they seem to be able to sneak into the rooms despite the netting on the windows and doors." See all these reviews: 13n in Zambia
