My Oct 2024 trip
Namibia between 20 Oct 2024 and 9 Nov 2024
We stayed in a variety of accommodations and Expert Africa prepared us for each one - we knew what to expect and how to get there.
It was a wonderful trip."

Kalahari Red Dunes Lodge

Hoodia Desert Lodge
"Hoodia Desert Lodge review"
The rooms are smaller than some but we amazing indoor and outdoor bathrooms, as well as an outside space for star gazing.
The food was a set menu of 3 courses. This might sound small or limited but it was absolutely perfect. It was the prefect amount of food served at the perfect pace.
Good wine selection at reasonable prices.
The day trip to Sossusvlei was excellent. We were in a private vehicle with 2 other couples from the Lodge. Perfectly planned and executed including a wonderful lunch under the trees. Definitely worth booking the day trip through the Lodge rather than doing it independently.
Can't recommend enough. The only reason we will not return is that we do not need to go back to Sossusvlei again (although we would consider it if there is a good rainy season).
As the rooms are made, in part, from tent canvas they can be warm in the late afternoon/early evening."
Hoodia Sossusvlei excursion
"Hoodia Sossusvlei excursion review"
23 Oct 2024 • All-day excursion
Perfect timing with breakfast beforehand, a comfortable vehicle with masses of water and a knowledgable guide. We share the day with 2 other couples.
It included a superb lunch under a tree.
Strand Hotel
"Strand Hotel review"
Good/easy directions to The Strand with good parking.
Great location I the middle of town. Excellent/friendly welcome and a nice room.
The lobby is beautiful but we think the weather (wet, rain, heat etc..) is very hard on buildings and things in the rooms aren't perfect.
Excellent breakfast. We dined twice at one of the hotel restaurants. We went the first night and it was so good we went back. In a country where so much meat is served it was a joy to eat fish! It is called Ocean Cellar and booking is essential.
We did not use the gym or other hotel facilities."
Kayaking with seals
"Kayaking with seals review"
25 Oct 2024 • Morning excursion
A group of about 20 including all ages. Excellent protective clothing for everyone for ourselves and valuables (cameras etc..).
Although this is listed as kayaking it is not strenuous or scary - anyone can do it. The kayaks are for two people and you are never out of standing depth.
They provided nice coffee as well as sandwiches and a cake. Highly recommended - so much better than going out on a boat!
It was also just a morning excursion so we had a relaxing free afternoon in town.
Coast and Sandwich Harbour
"Coast and Sandwich Harbour review"
26 Oct 2024 • All-day excursion
The guide knew the area and the wildlife and was an excellent driver. He knew where to go in order to be alone on the dunes. The water was high and he knew when to risk the beach and when to retreat inland. A lovely lunch of homemade (hot) lasagne and salad. On our return journey we passed perhaps 30 vehicles all heading out to Sandwich Bay. The beach was crowded for them but we had the place all to ourselves.
Highly recommended.
Doro Nawas
"Doro Nawas review"
They have a wonderful feature that allows you to sleep outside (very comfy beds that roll outside) with plenty of blankets and bush babies (hot water bottles).
The first night we ate on the roof.
Excellent animal watching.
Not enough time to try to pool."
Safarihoek Lodge
"Safarihoek Lodge review"
Safariehoek is amazing. We will be returning as soon as possible.
Incredible welcome and service, lovely food, a great pool and incredible animals.
Flexible service too so we were able to take a short extra safari on our last morning before checking out."
Okaukuejo Camp
"Okaukuejo Camp review"
It is definitely worth going because the animal viewing are unparalleled.
Not all reviews are excellent because it is basic BUT this is reflected in the price."
Okonjima Bush Camp
"Okonjima Bush Camp review"
Exceptional accommodation, warm welcome (return for my partner) and some of the best food on our trip. Spotted some animals here we didn't see anywhere else including babboons and so, so many birds.
The cheetahs are beautiful but we might not view them again as they are now held in captivity and not doing much.
Other wildlife in the reserve is wonderful and well managed. Guides are excellent.
We will return as soon as we can."
Eningu Clayhouse
"Eningu Clayhouse review"
It is relaxed and calm and it feels like home.
Eningu Clayhouse is low key and does not offer all the services that some lodges offer but this is reflected in the prices. We will definitely return on our next trip."
This was a perfect place to spend the first night in Namibia. The rooms are magnificent. A very large sitting room area looking out on to a veranda facing the waterhole. Equally large and luxurious bedroom and excellent services.
The food was very good but we did realise it wasn't as good as the trip progressed.
As there are no cats it is possible to walk unaccompanied which is good.
There are several activities but we didn't hear about some of them until it was too late so better checking with each reserve in advance is advised."
