Chimpanzee Trekking in Nyungwe Forest
"Chimpanzee Trekking in Nyungwe Forest review"
17 Sep 2024 • All-day excursion
It was a reasonably strenuous trek along paths on a steepish slope. The guide was very knowledgable, the trackers did a good job locating chimps for us. The use of the porters helped especially with the slippery slopes.
We saw numerous chimps on the ground and in the trees.
A great first trek
Cormoran Lodge
"Cormoran Lodge review"
Mosquito nets were supplied around the bed but were not needed this time of the year.
Room was clean and comfortable with tea making facilities.
The menu was varied and preordering our meals meant there was no delay in service.
We had a free day here and decided to book a 2 hr boat trip direct with the hotel. We were picked up by Nelson of Elisha boat tours, life jackets were available. We actually had nearly 3 hours which involved a hike on Napoleon’s island which involved walking through thousands of fruit bats - a truly magic experience."

The canopy walk was fun, giving us a great view over the trees
Mountain Gorilla View Lodge
"Mountain Gorilla View Lodge review"
Hot water bottles were put in the bed at night and were very much appreciated. The main building was quite cold in the evenings.
The food was buffet style, hot food was only warm and the meat dishes tended to be dry. The homemade soup each day was delicious, good range of salad / fruit.
Staff were very attentive.
Boots were cleaned after each trek to a high standard.
Wine was very expensive - 12000 RWD fr compared to 5000 at the other lodges."

Gorilla Trekking Safari

We requested a medium/ easy trek which Ringo was able to arrange for us.
We trekked for 45 mins through farm land to the edge of the forest. We entered over a wall and found our first silverback quickly, we then followed him through bamboo and nettles towards the rest of his family. It was an incredible hour, we saw a further 10+ gorillas of various ages in close proximity, at times within touching distance.
A truly magical experience.
