My Sep 2024 Malawi trip
Malawi between 8 Sep 2024 and 19 Sep 2024
"Overall, my trip was fantastic.
Unfortunately I didn't get to see either leopard or rhino but, overall, it was an elephant, hippo, buffalo and a lion kind of holiday (saw loads of all) so I can't complain (seeing 3 of the big 5). With both camps being on the banks of the river there was prolific birdlife and saw a huge variety of the smaller colourful birds as well as the larger raptures and water birds.
My experience of staying at two Robin Pope lodges did not disappoint - my expectations were met fully. For me, it's not just the wildlife viewing but also the experience of the accommodation, food and staff. I was welcomed warmly into both camps and met some interesting people (guests as well as staff).
I came home relaxed and extremely happy!
Suggestions to help us improve our trips or our service:
No - just keep on doing what you do well - I've used you before and will continue to use you in the future.
Thank you."

"Fantastic stay. Loved the small number of tents (only 4) which gave a personal experience. The tent was fantastic (with Wifi, not just at reception) with aircon.
As a solo traveller I was hoping meal times would be around a large table with everyone seated - instead it was a table for one for every meal. Not a problem at all (I like my me time) but it would have been nice to have shared experiences over evening dinner at least.
The staff were marvellous - both the camp managers (Casper and Yolande) and staff. My guide was Eneson who was excellent and a fantastic spotter. I went on a boat safari which was great - experiencing wildlife from a different perspective and terrain. I was the only guest on my last day in camp and was treated like a queen and felt very spoilt - table for one on the edge of the river by candlelight. I was very sad to leave.
The only area for improvement is the food - don't get me wrong - it was great but not of the standard of other RP lodges. I would have welcomed lighter choices for lunch (rather than pizza or fried chicken) - I got the impression that the camp is still trying to tick every box completely (late opening for the season and new managers). Well, they are already ticking all boxes - just the food experience needs to be raised.
I would most definitely go back - even if dining was still at a table for 1 and the food choices did not change!"

"Fantastic stay - loved it. Only 8 chalets so whilst not as personal an experience as at Kuthengo, still got to know my fellow "passengers" and staff . The chalet was fantastic (Wifi was only available at reception) and with aircon.
As a solo traveller I was hoping meal times would be around a large table with everyone seated - instead it was a table for one for every meal. Not a problem at all (I like my me time) but it would have been nice to have shared experiences over evening dinner at least. Some of the guests on my vehicle asked me to join them at mealtimes so I did have the option of sitting with others if I wanted.
The staff were marvellous - both the camp managers (Johan and Anneri) and staff. My guide was Tom who was excellent and used tracking more to seek animals due to the denseness of the bush - a totally different experience to Kuthengo. My last night was celebrated by a table for 1 on the edge of the river by candlelight. I was very sad to leave.
The food was fantastic - great quality and inventive - some unusual combinations but gorgeous! And, salad options for lunch - perfect.
My fault as I hadn't researched the camp fully (doh!) but I wasn't aware you had to cross a rope bridge twice a day to leave and return to camp. I didn't enjoy that aspect (the "bridge of doom") but, it was a necessity and even had I known, it wouldn't have changed my decision to go there and having been, it wouldn't stop me going again. However, for older guests, those suffering from a fear of heights / vertigo it wouldn't be ideal so maybe the way in / out of the camp should be stressed to guests when booking.
Again very sad to leave - just what I needed."

Used room service - food was excellent.
My room was right next to reception and the hotel started to hoover at 9pm as I went to bed! I was so tired it didn't really matter but even so!
Staff very friendly and helpful. A pleasant stay."
