"My Feb 2025 trip"
Tam, from enquiry to amending the draft plan to booking to documentation as good as any (quality rather than too much quantity info)
Accommodation in Dar Sheraton (very good) both camps (wonderful!) and Pemba (palatial villa) outstanding.
Flights/transfers all punctual
Game drives/walks excellent guiding, flora, fauna, birds. Both camp teams brilliant.
Tam, your responsiveness to Elaine’s health issue was top class with help from Mollie in Kichaka and Abeid in Pemba
But….
Advance info on page 15 of the travel document on suitcase dimensions sizes is incorrect for Auric Air (a full size case is fine)
No confirmation in Dar hotel of pick up time, especially because on arrival our driver thought we were staying at the Hyatt. To ensure we’d be collected next morning at the Sheraton we repeatedly phoned (with the help of the hotel) the local agent (Kearsley?) but it just rang out. We tried again 3 hours later and confirmed.
No prior info regarding Zanzibar/Pemba ‘mandatory travel insurance’ of $88 on arrival. It’s superfluous as it duplicates our worldwide insurance, just a disguised government tax.
Africa Assist was like talking to a US hospital! First question - what’s your insurance policy number, they didn’t recognise it or listen. It took another 2 hours before they contacted us and then only after Expert Africa’s intervention. They then followed up (unnecessarily) in the following days maybe to try to make up for their initial unhelpfulness? Lucky it wasn’t an emergency." Fundu Lagoon was disappointing." Read full review: 16 nights in Africa; 15 on a Tanzania safari

There were some animals we did not see, due to the dry time of the year.
The staff did everything to help us to see as much as possible.
We felt very well taken care of." Read full review: 2 nights in Africa; 2 on a Tanzania safari
"Tanzania Walking Safaris Oct/Nov 2024 "
One small gripe the EA are aware of - we had quite a long lay over on arrival and time would have been better split 50/50 between Terminal 3 (International) and Terminal 1 (light aircraft). Terminal 1 was relatively basic and Terminal 3 would have afforded more and better eating options after 20 hours of travelling. Feedback on this was very quickly and sensitively handled.
We expect to use Expert Africa again !" Read full review: 10 nights in Africa; 9 on a Tanzania safari

"My Oct 2024 trip"
It was nice to bump into Chris (the boss) on our trip - once on one of the flights and again at Mdonya. He's clearly extremely knowledgeable and passionate about all things safari.
We loved the two camps, and it was great to visit two different areas as the experience was different at each. In particular we loved the fact that both parks were relatively quiet and on the game drives we rarely saw other people.
We expected both of the camps to be quite basic in terms of facilities, but we felt really spoilt at both, the tents were lovely and the food was excellent. Probably because of this, the time in Zanzibar, which we were anticipating being a bit of luxury at the end, fell a bit short in comparison (although Jessica's first recommendation wasn't available).
Overall, I'd highly recommend Expert Africa and we hope to be able to book another trip with them one day!" Read full review: 12 nights in Africa; 7 on a Tanzania safari
"Our Oct 2024 trip"
The camps we visited both had excellent facilities and staff but Jongomero staff really stole our heart! What wonderful and authentic people!
We recognized real changes in Southern Tanzania that have occurred during the five years since we last visited. Climate change has affected the weather. We had three evenings of rain at Jongomero (one torrential) that surprised everyone since it was still the dry season. At Siwandu, the temperatures reached the high nineties.
Both changes impacted game viewing but our guides were great and went above and beyond to ensure great viewing opportunities. Another change that we noticed in the Selous was “progress” since the new dam was completed. The airstrip has been expanded and they are building yet a newer, bigger one. There is now miles of unpaved highway and lots of truck traffic. Of course, all of this has impacted wildlife. Lastly, we talked at length with many of the camp staff. They told us that cell phones and technology in general is changing life in their villages. Many young people are looking at other options rather than the traditional tribal ways." The high standard of accommodation, safari and activities on the island were greatly appreciated.
The company running the safari camp and Fanjovi Island are a masterclass in customer service.
Thank you for a holiday of a lifetime!
Suggestions to help us improve our trips or our service:
The only reason I left "value for money" blank is because we have never paid so much for a holiday, nor have we been on a safari so have nothing similar to compare it to.
It was our best holiday, it exceeded our expectations, so no gripes on the "value for money".
No, we don't have any suggestions to improve your trips or your service ---- and that's unusual." Read full review: 15 nights in Africa; 12 on a Tanzania safari
