"Probably highlight of our trip; loved it! Ernest was a very informative and friendly guide, who showed us so many environmental aspects of the coastal desert - can't praise him enough."

"Exhilarating trip tp Sandwich Harbour"

"A really action and fun packed day.
Wayne from Turnstone tours really made it exciting - especially driving up and down the dunes and the race back along the beach before the tide came in.
Saw loads of wildlife and Wayne was very knowledgable.
We only expected a snack, but he provided a very good lunch with a table and cloth, proper plates and cutlery. I never expected to be eating home made lasagne and apple crumble (both excellent) in the middle of the dunes!" Read more about this whole safari

"A great day out. All went very well, and Ernest, our guide, was excellent.
Did not see as many birds as I had hoped, and in fact Sandwhich Harbour was somewhat devoid of life - a few pelicans, and jackals and some other small birds. Perhaps it was the wrong time of year.
The lunch in the sand dunes was great - the best lasagne I have tasted for a long time." Read more about this whole safari

"This is an excellent trip, particularly for someone keen on birds, but also for anyone interested in extraordinary scenery and wildlife.
Ernst was a very informative and friendly driver/guide. As well as the birds we saw lots of jackal and learned a lot about the issues facing the area..
Driving over the dunes was quite an experience.
A very nice lunch was provided, although it didn't quite match the sumptuous feast which I'd imagined, having read previous reviews.
Highly recommended." Read more about this whole safari

"Very good day trip to Sandwich Bay - enjoyed by all. Excellent lunch and weather was warm almost too hot after our previous trip which I found very cold
Our previous trip had been with Bruno but he's too busy doing other things now, but our guide was excellent and informative and answered all of the 100 questions Ben asked him." Read more about this whole safari

"Disappointing"
Based at Sam's Giardino on 8 Aug 2010
"One of the few poor experiences of our trip. Disappointing after all the postive comments we had read. We booked this through Expert Africa at a cost of (we think) £90 EACH and it was definitely not worth this.
The trip runs from 8.30am until approx 5.00pm and is dependant on the tide to get in and out of Sandwich Harbour safely. With this in mind we ended up with only 10 mins at Sandwich Harbour - only just making it back before the tide cut us off - scarey. Why could we have not left earlier or gone to the Harbour later in the afternoon tide to avoid this problem. After, we felt the guide (a part time locum) didn't know what else to do with us as we had an overlong lunch to use up time and then a trip to Pelican Point which was exactly where we were to go the following day for kayaking. Surely something else could have been arranged involving the desert/dunes as this is what we thought the trip was all about. Alternatively they could have bought us back early and offered a part refund. In short our £180 bought 10 minutes at Sandwich bay and an expensive lunch. Not good." Read more about this whole safari

"Good - but not quite what we expected"
Based at Beach Lodge on 29 Jul 2010
"We enjoyed our pre booked Namib Desert tour but it did not deliver what we had expected. Andrew, our guide, had only once been to the "Horses Graveyard' which he said was very difficult to find and couldn't be reached in the long wheelbase Landrover we were in; we never saw Goanikontes Oasis and much to our disappointment there was no 'exciting 4x4 dune-driving' - just driving on roads. Lunch was great but the afternoon felt as if we were just passing time so that we didn't return to the hotel until 5pm as the schedule suggested. A nice enough day but disappointing compared with our expectations."
