The Majlis: video gallery

The Majlis: picture gallery

The Majlis is a beachfront resort hotel on a quiet stretch of shore on Manda island.
The beach here, on the other side of hotel's sea wall, is often near-deserted.
Arrival is by boat, directly from the Lamu airport jetty.
The main central feature is the large restaurant-dining room and first floor lounge-bar.
The dining terrace is shady and spacious…
…though it doesn't have sea views.
The superior and deluxe rooms are housed in two "villas"…
…the northernmost one of which…
…has a good-sized pool directly outside the shared lounge.
The shared lounges are nicely furnished…
…and lead along short corridors…
…to the rooms.
Deluxe rooms have beachfront verandahs.
The rooms are large…
…with very comfortable beds…
…and finished in Swahili style…
…though somewhat fussily furnished.
The bathrooms are spacious and attractive…
…with all the essentials.
If you book a suite (see the "Promotional Images" gallery), you'll be staying in the main house…
…at the southern end of the property.
The suites have windows onto the gardens at the rear…
…as well as the pool at the front.…
…where the "Majlis" pavillion itself – a small lounge bar – is located.
One of The Majlis' best features is the range of activities on offer, from fishing to wake-boarding…
…and the chance to have relaxing a massage after your marine exertions.
