Lamu House: picture gallery

Lamu House is nicely integrated into the life of the town.
It's a delightful contrast with modern life and the flight from Nairobi.
You'll be met at Lamu airport jetty by the hotel's transfer boat captain…
…who ferries you across to the waterfront right next to the hotel.
If you have the energy, explore the main street through town.
Otherwise, explore the hotel, starting with the restful central courtyard.
There are cool, comfortable corners here…
…nice spots to eat in private…
…and a small plunge pool…
…as well as a full-sized swimming pool, the only large pool in town.
The weather was overcast on this day, but it makes a wonderful retreat from the heat.
As does the common roof terrace, where yoga and massage sessions take place.
All the rooms at Lamu House are well finished…
…and comfortably furnished…
…and even those at the back have intriguing views out onto the narrow alleys of town…
…or into the gardens.
They all have verandas or private roof terraces…
…and the bathrooms are particularly attractive…
…and well thought-out.
Fragrant toiletries are provided in glass flasks.
Rooms at the front tend to get snapped up first for their views.
This is Kiwaiyu room, looking into Siyu's balcony.
All the rooms have Swahili-style recliners, complete with leg rests.
The rooms aren't huge, but they've fresh and very well cared-for…
…and like the rooms at the back of the house, have welcomingly large bathrooms…
…with very attractive detailing.
One of Lamu House's strongest cards is a very good restaurant, …
…the Moonrise, at the front of the hotel, just next to the lobby.
You can eat or sit with a drink here…
…with views of the comings and goings on the waterfront.
