"Botswana: great coming back"

I visited Botswana between 16 Aug 2014 and 26 Aug 2014
"This was our second trip to Botswana and it was a great experience. Megan understood our needs and gave us very good suggestions for what to choose and where to go (thanks also for the good tip on the Residence in Joburg).

Every single detail was very well organized and we just did not have to worry about anything but enjoying Africa and wildlife." Read full review: 10 nights in Africa; 8 on a Botswana safari

"Botswana Anniversary Trip"

I visited Botswana and 1 other country between 28 Jun 2014 and 16 Jul 2014
"A magical trip combining the wonder of Victoria Falls with the splendour of the Okavango Delta.

Beautiful countries, friendly and welcoming people, amazing wildlife and superb service. What more could anyone want!

Thank you Megan for all your time spent advising, sharing, deliberating and finally, once all of our many questions had been addressed, organising such a smoothly run trip. Thank you also to Expert Africa for the copy of Bradt Botswana - essential reading before the journey, and to Nick and the team for rearranging our flights when our itinerary had to be changed due to illness.

We will certainly be recommending Expert Africa to all of our friends.

Suggestions to help us improve our trips or our service:

I cannot think of anything to improve your service but here's a few pieces of information that could be useful :-

At the Waterberry Lodge it's Weaver that has the bath not Swallow.

Tipping is always a difficult and personal issue but we followed and appreciated your advice . However Wilderness Safaris suggest up to three times the amount per person per day for general staff - Chitabe/Chitabe Lediba's guidelines were $10 - $15 per guest per day and Xigera recommended $10 per guest per day. This left us in a quandary! Whilst their service is indeed excellent we found their suggested amount excessive given the already high cost of the stay.

I'd asked about availability of robes in camps prior to our trip and can now happily report back that the above three Wilderness camps all supplied cosy fleece dressing gowns for those chilly winter mornings!

The price of a private vehicle with Kwando does not include a private boat whereas with Wilderness it does." Read full review: 18 nights in Africa; 14 on a Botswana safari

"Epic trip to Botswana & Mozambique 2014"

I visited Botswana and 2 other countries between 29 May 2014 and 2 Jul 2014
"A terrific holiday! We had some amazing experiences and met some lovely people.

We booked a great holiday to Namibia with Tracy Lederer in 2010 and she was the natural choice when we were planning a trip to Botswana. Thank you Tracy for your patience and invaluable help.

"a great experience"

I visited Botswana and 1 other country between 28 May 2014 and 14 Jun 2014
"Botswana is definitely the premier destination for wildlife safaris. Having been to Tanzania, Namibia and South Africa, I felt Botswana had the most to offer although the former holidays were great in their own right.

The camps were, on the whole, well run and the staff hospitable and friendly. The guides were passionate and knowledgeable - always keen to answer questions and reveal the secrets of their country. We not only learned a great deal about the wildlife but also the traditions of the people and how the country has benefited from the flourishing tourist industry. Other struggling African nations could learn a great deal from the shining example posed by Botswana.

We had a fantastic time and hope to return at some point in the future, Expert Africa's recommendations and organising skills were spot on. Flights, pick ups, drop offs etc etc all went like a dream, so well done to Megan and her team. These things don't happen without a lot of work going on behind the scenes.

One negative point, perhaps worth mentioning, is that we were told it would be difficult to book the holiday as late as January as the good camps would be full. As it turned out, none of the camps were anything like full, and Duba Plains, probably the best camp we stayed in, was half empty for two of the three nights we stayed there. I know that travel companies want you to book early but it did not suit us on this occasion to do so.

Another useful service Expert Africa could offer, as some other companies do, is a breakdown of the costs of each camp. This would allow the client to compare like with like and assess, at least in a cost sense, the quality of individual camps.

Suggestions to help us improve our trips or our service:

Just keep doing what you do. I can think of nothing to criticise in the organisation of the holiday. Obviously, very expensive but a lot of the tourist cash does filter back to the people of Botswana which is vital in maintaining the passion and commitment of guides and staff.

It would help to receive some feedback from Expert Africa re my observations and comments above. We did not receive any feedback to our comments regarding a previous holiday in Tanzania. Perhaps a phone call discussion with Megan would be a useful way of showing that our feedback was valued." Read full review: 17 nights in Africa; 13 on a Botswana safari

"My May 2014 trip"

I visited Botswana between 17 May 2014 and 3 Jun 2014
"This was to be the trip of a lifetime. It was something I had dreamed of since I was about 7 years old, and hours went into planning and information gathering. We looked at other travel companies, famous and expensive ones. Expert Africa had the most informative website that seemed unbiased. As long as the expectations are clear in advance, there are only positive experiences.

Maruska, the Expert who booked our trip gave all of the information that I requested, which was extensive! Maruska was patient and gave us the benefit of having spent years in Botswana. She was empathic, realizing that not having been there before, I was not certain what precautions were needed. She assuaged my fears with accurate information and patience. She explained all aspects of the travel and elicited confidence. She accommodated a very custom tailored, complicated itinerary, and was indefatigable! I must say that all of her hard work paid off for us. The Botswana experience was far better than I could have hoped or imagined. Everything was perfect would be an understatement. The trip was beyond my wildest dreams.

Bostwana is a spectacular part of the world. The ecosystems are unique, the beauty is unreal, the wildlife was up close and the people are the loveliest of all.

Our trip was wonderful in every way. The people who lived and worked at the camps were filled with humor and kindness, and loved a good surprise. I would like to thank every one.

"Our May 2014 Family Reunion"

I visited Botswana and 1 other country between 3 May 2014 and 14 May 2014
"Incredible, extraordinary, exciting, unbelievably memorable experience we will always cherish as a family!

Maruska did a fabulous job of getting it all together with not a great deal of time. She got back with us in a very timely manner which especially helped given the time constraints and the fact that we were dealing with 6 adults with different job schedules and on different continents.

She was professional and very knowledgeable.

We would definitely recommend Expert Africa and hope to come back to Botswana some day.

Suggestions to help us improve our trips or our service:

Had we started at Okuti we might have felt differently about the experience. It was so different from Tubu Tree. Obviously one has to work with availability but it might be good, if possible, to use a formula of the least desirable camp first. Being our first safari, we also were not anticipating such a big difference between the private and public reserve experiences. One positive consequence was that Okuti really made us appreciate our time at Tubu Tree and Labala and allowed us to see subtle differences which none the less made a huge difference in the atmosphere and experience."
