My Jan 2023 trip
Tanzania and 1 other country between 11 Jan 2023 and 27 Jan 2023
"The whole experience was great. We had a brilliant time. Everything worked just as Expert Africa had planned so we didn't have to worry about a thing.
Safaris were great - the camps recommended above excellent. Everyone in both camps were determined to provide us with the best experience possible. Having discussed with Lyndsey the various areas in Tanzania we could have chosen for our safaris, we were pleased we chose the Selous and Ruaha - two very different areas though the wildlife was much the same on the whole. But we appreciated the different landscapes, the views, the lush vegetation and the amazing accommodation.
Stone Town - was good for two nights, not sure we'd have wanted any longer in retrospect, so again good advice from Expert Africa. And we couldn't fault White Sands!
All in all - an amazing holiday. Thank you!"

Ikuka Safari Camp

"The camp location was excellent, great vistas over the bush in the valley below. The accommodation was excellent. Loved the hot water bottles in the bed a night! All the staff were great and dining excellent. We were given the opportunity to dine just as a couple (which we did at lunch time) but everyone agreed to eat together in the evening which meant we could all share our experiences of the day.
At this camp we had our own driver/guide for all the four days. He was excellent, full of useful knowledge and tried really hard to proved sightings of all sorts of animals and birds, often going off the main routes and into the bush to follow fresh lion tracks or animal calls. With other camps in the area, guides did call each other when they spotted an animal. So when a pride of lions was found lunching on an Impala, our guide was able to take us there.
Likewise, when a leopard was spotted, our guide changed plans and headed off in that direction and we were lucky to have the leopard walk right by our vehicle. This is not to give the impression there were lots of vehicles converging at these spots all at once, there weren't. For most of the time we never encountered anyone else, so enjoyed the landscape and animal sightings in isolation and peace. Breakfasts and sundowners out in the wild were a great start and end to the day.
Loved every minute!"

"This was an interesting hotel but perhaps, not one for anyone wanting the usual western style rooms and amenities.
And anyone with mobility issues ...stairs are steep and no lift!
Our room, suite in fact, was very comfortable, breakfasts were good and staff helpful.
The rooftop restaurant was great for a sundowner but meal just ok
Two nights was fine. Location was as expected so it was easy to walk around and soak up the sights and atmosphere of Stone Town."

Stone Town Discovery Tour
"Stone Town Discovery Tour review"
21 Jan 2023 • All-day excursion
Guide was good, spoke good English, explained a lot and gave us an overview of the history of Stone Town.
He recommended on or two places for us to visit so we spent an excellent couple of hours at the Exposition of Slavery at the Anglican Cathedral. Something we would recommend doing.

"What isn't there to like?? Sheer luxury and a great way to relax after a safari.
Staff were friendly, helpful and the food was just superb.
The accommodation was amazingly spacious and private and the private pool was much appreciated as the sea wasn't quite so good for swimming."

We did see most of the animals we could see in that area of the national park, sadly, no lions or wild dogs...though the guides were hopeful we might. We had lots of opportunity to stop and watch elephants, giraffes and others, often at close quarters, whilst the guides provided lots of information about them.
We really liked the variation in landscape from the thick bush to wider plain, river valley and lake.
We shared a vehicle with another couple, which was no problem for us, and it was good to meet up in the evening, when everyone ate together, to share experiences.
The accommodation was of a very high standard. Loved waking up to see an elephant or giraffe grazing in front of us. Food was great ( they have some superb chefs) and dining each evening in a different venue gave added pleasure. Loved the final night when the guides joined us for an African themed candle lit supper."
