What a wonderful holiday!
Kenya between 16 Jan 2023 and 29 Jan 2023
"Our Kenyan safari holiday was simply marvellous.
Everything went smoothly, Expert Africa's advice was spot-on, and all the arrangements made by Jessica, our consultant, were flawless.
Thank you so much ... we will definitely come back for more!
Suggestions to help us improve our trips or our service:
Can't think of anything. Our trip and your service were both superb."

"We enjoyed our time here but our chalet (no 7) was extremely hot and we had a rough patch of lawn outside, rather than a deck, with two stiff wrought-iron chairs rather than loungers or more comfortable seats. We had a long discussion with the manager about these issues after he requested feedback and he said he would recommend a second fan in the chalet (the downstairs lounge part couldn't be reached by the existing fan) and more comfortable outdoor seating. It was also very dimly lit at night and pitch dark when the lights were off, so we'd recommend that each guest take a torch because the loo is accessed via steps.
Also, the reception area and most of the rooms are well below the level of the restaurant and bar. The walk up for meals can be quite a heave for anyone with mobility or respiratory issues.
The food here was a real highlight. The lunches, especially, were simply sublime and outstripped anything we had at other camps, although quality everywhere was very high. We think that Jackie, the chef, is this camp's real USP. Other staff were rightly very proud of her.
Game viewing was good but somewhat limited because the rangers can't drive off-road in the Meru National Park. Apparently the camp has asked for special permission to go off-road but is still waiting for an answer after six years of campaigning. Nonetheless, we were lucky to spot rhino and a lioness and her cubs near the road, and we were glad to have stayed here because of the very distinctive scenery in the area."

Loisaba Tented Camp

"Fabulous camp. wonderful staff, wonderful food. Really enjoyed the bush breakfasts. Really enjoyed our camel safari.
Little touches stood out here: our vehicle was equipped with sandbags, which, stacked up, made it easy to stabilize my camera. Such a simple thing, but lacking in the other camps we stayed at. We were able to go off-road to get closer to game, and the camp's Landrovers (rather than the more usual Toyota Landcruisers) also had charging stations for phones etc. Our guide was a keen photographer, which was a boon as he tried hard to get the lighting right for our photographs.
We'd thoroughly recommend this camp."

Angama Mara
"A simply gorgeous lodge and the undoubted highlight of our holiday."

"A simply gorgeous lodge and the undoubted highlight of our holiday.
There were a couple of negatives, since nothing is ever perfect: tents sited just a bit too close together, and a pool that was not as clean as one might have wished for.
However, the camp's positives far outweighed these minor niggles. We stayed at the South Camp, managed by James, who was absolutely exceptional, and went above and beyond to keep all his guests happy. The staff were all fabulous, no doubt taking their lead from James.
The camp's setting is just glorious. We appreciated the mod-cons in our tent, including a fridge, overhead fans and electric blankets, should we have needed them. The decanters of gin and whisky were also a great idea, as was the fresh lemon provided with them every day. The food was great and our butler had undertaken some training to become a sommelier, so was able to pair wine with food in a way that increased the pleasure of both, and which was a step up from other camps.
The biggest surprise though, given that Angama seems to be known more for its luxury than "getting close to nature", was the quality of our guide. We have been on safaris in Zimbabwe, Kenya previously, Botswana, South Africa, Namibia and Tanzania, but Jeremy, our guide at Angama, took game-viewing to a completely different level.
In our experience, Jeremy was absolutely in a league of his own: highly articulate, clearly passionate about wildlife, a keen photographer (who took the time to position our vehicle for the best shots), up to date with the latest academic research on different species and able to track a cheetah, sharing his insights about its likely targets for hunting and its likely movements, for several hours, keeping us captivated in the process.
I don't know if we were simply lucky in being allocated him, but if Angama's other guides are at the same level, then this camp is truly the very best there is. In any event, we thought its pricing was well justified and we would definitely go back."

"Perfect for repacking and freshening up before a night flight from Nairobi to London.
We had a comfortable room with a good shower and the restaurant served very tasty food.
The hotel's shuttle service to the airport is fast and efficient."

Our pick-up from the airport was flawless. Staff were superb. The setting was tranquil and our accommodation was first class. Our only small quibble would be that the property is large and our room was a long way from the main reception/restaurant area. If we stayed here again we'd request a room closer to reception. Food quality was also very good.
All in all, we think this would always be our first choice if staying in or near Nairobi."
