Saruni Samburu
"Excellent lodge, disappointing food"
3 nights
Arrived
24 Nov 2019
"Despite the wet November weather, our stay at Saruni Samburu was really enjoyable.
Everyone talks about the view but believe me, it has to be experienced.
Our villa, (#3) was beautiful and spacious. Service was excellent and we usually dined in our room for a more relaxing experience. Our room attendant, Simon was excellent. However, the food was disappointing. There were no menu options, the Italian-based meals had a consistent sameness, and the chef used a lot of salt on every dish.
The manager Daryll was truly accommodating and he plans further upgrades to the lodge and is dedicated to ongoing maintenance.
Service throughout was friendly and consistently upbeat and attentive. I also had two wonderful deep massages in the wellness centre."

Feedback response
We were delighted these clients enjoyed their stay at Saruni Samburu, but surprised and disappointed that they rated the food poor. The camp wrote to us to apologise and say how sorry there were, and pointed out that other guests in camp at the time had commented how much there were enjoying the meals.

Saruni Rhino
"Lovely camp but not for green seasons"
3 nights
Arrived
27 Nov 2019
"There had been a lot of rain during the time of our visit so the thick vegetation prevented good rhino sightings...the main reason of course to go.
Nevertheless we really enjoyed our two nights. There are only three bandas (cabins) and the largest was empty so staying there was a very intimate experience.
With the camp manager away, we were under the care of Martin, who was a real asset, providing top quality service and attending to all our needs.
He also led us on a nature walk and we truly enjoyed getting to know both the ecosystem and some of the Samburu culture.
All in all, a very positive experience."

Feedback response
We were very pleased to hear how much these travellers enjoyed the cultural aspects of their time at Saruni Rhino. The very heavy rains in the later part of 2019 became a national emergency with devastating consequences for parts of Kenya. The camp wrote to us to explain that this was the first time they had conducted rhino tracking in such conditions and only the fourth occasion in three years on which visitors did not see rhinos. They went on to say how sorry they were for the guests’ misfortune in not seeing rhinos, but that the weather was quite unprecedented and the unusual conditions very short-lived.

Mara Plains Camp
"Wonderful, intimate camp "
5 nights
Arrived
30 Nov 2019
"Mara Plains was the final stop of our November/December safari that took us from north to south. And it was definitely the highlight.
Our tent overlooking the Conservancy was beyond beautiful, the service excellent and the food very good.
Special mention to Sandra, who I believe was serving as interim manager, and went out of her way to make sure our needs were met and special requests fulfilled.
Finally, our guide Edwin was superb, with a great eye for game but also a deep knowledge of African ecosystems that made him one of the very best guides we have had in our four safaris in five African countries."

From the moment the plane landed, we knew that we were in a special place.
Our excellent guide Moses was there to greet us and his keen eye and really pleasant personality was a great asset throughout our visit.
Tonny, the manager, upgraded us to room #1, a larger size unit with a stunning view.
Food prepared by Chef Philip was excellent and service throughout was great.
However, Elewana should definitely invest some money in needed upgrades however. Screens and mosquito netting had holes, the room’s white decor had lots of marks and signs of squashed bugs, etc.
Looking at the big picture though, we really enjoyed our stay. Game drives were surprisingly interesting and productive especially given the weather and we left with lots of good memories"
