"This was a simple b and b about 15 minutes walk from the centre. It was spotlessly clean, with extremely helpful and efficient staff. The breakfast was well cooked and we had everything we needed.

The manager was not on site at night, so be aware that you may be the only people in the house. However, It felt perfectly safe and we had an emergency contact number."

"We were due to stay at Galenia Estate but it was damaged by a fire. We stayed instead at Fraai Uitzicht, a boutique winery. This was absolutely gorgeous. We stayed in a cottage by the naturally formed swimming pool and overlooking the gardens. We did a walk in the vineyards accompanied by the owner's two black labradors (who ate an enormous amount of grapes on the vines!). Karl and his wife did everything they could to make our stay as interesting and as comfortable as possible. The cottage was absolutely beautiful with a free standing bath, an indoor and outdoor shower. We would definitely go back there."

"After a 35 km drive along gravel roads with amazing scenery, we arrived at De Hoop Opstal. This nature reserve is huge and has baboons, zebras, bonteboks and much else. The lake trip is well worth doing as is the early morning bird walk. Unfortunately the skies were not clear enough for guided star spotting. Depending on where you stay, it can be a little walk to the restaurant and shop.

It is another 7 kms to the coast which has fabulous beaches and when the tide is right, you can swim in rock pools. A really peaceful and interesting place to stay."

"This is a lovely lodge with stunning views across the wooded ravine. The lodges are extremely comfortable, with lovely touches like a short African story book and a chocolate on your pillow every night. They have a fire pit in the evenings on the terrace and a delightful dining room where you can choose to sit with other guests. The food is good.

The swimming pool area is gorgeous. We walked down into the ravine and up the other side to visit the bird sanctuary. However, The elephant sanctuary is very expensive and not worth it!

Would definitely like to have stayed longer."
