My Dec 2015 trip
South Africa between 15 Dec 2015 and 2 Jan 2016
"It was a great trip but marred by a terrible hire car and extra De Hoop expenditure (both as outlined earlier). As a family we have made many life long memories which is the reason we wanted to do the trip in the first place. I will, however, steer well clear of self drive holidays for a while as the arguments Craig And I had over the driving and the car were too frequent and stressful!"

"The only negative comment we have is about the pool which needs TLC as it was very dirty and the children didn't want to use it. In all other respects this place know its customers and strives to meet expectations. The breakfasts were absolutely brilliant."

"We did not like the journey here because the hire car was not fit for purpose for the roads. A truly horrible experience driving from Swellendam to De Hoop.
However, once at De Hoop we appreciated its unique location although the rooms could do with an upgrade.
Our main criticism here is of Expert Africa's itinerary. This said we were self catering but when we got to De Hoop we were told that we were booked on a half board basis. Given that De Hoop is in the middle of nowhere and we were staying there for Christmas we had stocked up in Swellendam. Most of the food we bought went to waste so we are not happy about the expenditure we have incurred as this could have been avoided."

Steve, our ranger, was absolutely fantastic. He was brilliant with the children and he pitched his tours at exactly the right level. We thoroughly enjoyed the game drives.
The lodge was quaint but chaotic . It was never really clear who was in charge in the dining room or in general so we got the impression that the place was disorganised e.g. food orders were often misinterpreted and on one occasion we waited for a children's pudding that the staff kept telling us was on its way but in fact never turned up so we just gave up waiting and no mention of it was made again by the staff!"
