Self drive round Southern Namibia

"This was a hugely pleasurable trip - self drive proved fine ( we enjoyed being able to go where we wanted and when - and we didn't break down!) - and the desert scenery was magnificent. The lodges were all very good and all had charming and helpful staff.
Our only suggestion is that our itinerary could have been improved so that we could have fitted in a trip to Swakomund in the same 10 day period."

We have been in touch with the owners of Villa Violet who were very sorry that these travellers found the breakfast pack inedible.
The owners have assured us that they will take great care to ensure that the breakfast packs are as good as possible.
Namibia's municipality has issued a hosepipe ban across the country for the foreseeable future due to drought conditions and it has become mandatory that pool covers be used and filling private pools has been banned. This unfortunately makes it harder for the owners to maintain their pools to a high standard.

"Changed to Canyon Lodge ( had to pay quite a bit more ) as didn't think 2.5 days at the Roadhouse would be fun ( pool cloudy and no other activities).

"Stayed in the rondavaals 7k from main lodge along sand roads. Roomy accommodation built around a huge rock.
Very comfortable but shared with one or two mice!
A long way to go to the main lodge for anything so one night had their brai pack - very good! - and made sure we were ready to leave from the lodge after breakfast there.
Went for a great walk in the hills on the estate - too chicken to mountain bike though it looked amazing."

Sossus Dune Lodge
"Brilliant place- impo inside the nationalpark"

"Staying inside the park was a great advantage - you could drive befor dawn and after sunset - as it's 20 k to the main dune area from the park gates people staying outside the park can't be in the dunes for sunset or dawn.
We were there for both and both times were very memorably helped on the dawn trip by an excellent guide - even gave us a 15 min lecture on the stars before we set off.
Importantly it was cool too - we felt sorry for the tourists arriving at 9.00 a.m. to climb Big Daddy when the temperature must have already been 30 degrees.
The Lodge itself was comfortable if not luxurious. But service was good, pool fine and food tasty."
