Fantastic!
Namibia between 7 Sep 2013 and 28 Sep 2013
I hadn't appreciated that nearly all the roads would be gravel and quite how empty the country is. There are long distances where you don't see another car or anything else for that matter.
This is obviously just our opinion, but we didn't think that the dunes at Sossusvlei were worth the long drive!
We will return to Namibia but spend more time in Etosha."

Elegant Guesthouse
"Good place to start the trip"

Hoodia Desert Lodge
"The best lodge that we stayed at"
We are vegetarians and the meals here were the best that we had in Namibia.
Hoodia Desert Lodge's tour was fully booked but it was extremely easy to it ourselves. If you want to take the organised tour, book early!"

Central Guest House, Namibia (this camp has since closed)
"A good place to stay in Swakopmund."
The rooms are comfortable and the staff very hospitable."

Vingerklip Lodge
"Lovely place to stay."
There is a waterhole that can be viewed from the rooms.
The buffet was fine for vegetarians."

Dolomite Camp
"Ideal spot for the waterholes."
We went on the game drive which introduced us to the animals in Etosha; wonderful.
As vegetarians, this was the worst dinner that we had in Namibia!
The tent was very noisy in the wind but comfortable."

Okaukuejo Camp
"Stay for the waterhole"
Ladies, the only mirror is in the bathroom so hair drying has to take place without a mirror next to the sink in the kitchen!
The dinner buffet does not cater for vegetarians so this made the meal expensive for what we could eat but everyone else seemed to be enjoying it. There is a small shop but no cooking equipment in the kitchen; there is a BBQ outside the chalet.
The water hole is excellent though and we just spent the days and nights sitting by it. We saw 2 male elephants fighting it out at the floodlit waterhole and later we saw a rhino and her baby. The benches around the waterhole are not very comfortable for long periods though-take a cushion!"

Mushara Bush Camp
"Ensure that the flaps are done up tight!"
The staff bought out a birthday cake for a guest and entertained us all with their singing-very talented.
vegetarians; a nice meal the first night and they catered for us on the second night when there was a BBQ. The tables were laid out in a clearing and the area looked good with lanterns on all the tables.
The first night was very cold and windy and I could feel the draughts coming into the tent. All the canvas flaps were making a tremendous noise in the wind and I thought that the tent would disappear over our heads!
There is a mesh window on the wall of the shower and I decided it was too cold to go in there! The second night was less windy and we went around the outside of the tent to ensure that the flaps that we could reach were zipped up tight.
I appreciate that the wild life can't be controlled but the ants were everywhere-including in the shower. Don't take any food into the tent.
We enjoyed the game drive that we took into Etosha from the camp and had a very beautiful sun set behind us as we returned to the camp."

Frans Indongo Lodge
"A good place to stop for the night"
We went for short a walk on the land opposite and a game drive where we saw 6 white rhinos.
Food was good for vegetarians."

Okonjima Plains Camp
"Loved it!"
This camp is all about the activities and we were booked on them all! We tracked leopards (twice), walked up to a group of cheetahs and visited the Africat Foundation.
We were grouped with 2 other couples from the UK for the game drives and meals and kept the same guide throughout.
We couldn't visit the hide though as the storm knocked out the lights there."

Elegant Guesthouse
"Stay in Windhoek for the last night."
We had stayed there on our first night and it was nice to see the same staff again.
One of the men made a good job of cleaning the car for us."
The rooms are small but adequate as not a lot of time would be spent here. The shower is good.
The staff made us feel very welcome; Angelius chatted to us about Namibia and Matilda prepared a very nice breakfast.
The guesthouse is close to a supermarket where we stocked up before we left."
