Trip in Dec 12/ Jan 13 and just to Rwanda.
Rwanda between 28 Dec 2012 and 10 Jan 2013
Expert Africa (Liz, Eleanor and Chris) were very helpful in addressing what at the time (Dec 12) was a delicate security situation in the Rwanda/DRC border area with changing FCO advice. As a result we did not stay in Gisenyi which would have more going on than Kibuye.
Our vehicle/guide were provided by Primates Safaris who were very good - we would recommend them if available."

Hotel des Mille Collines
"Good for an overnight in Kigali."

Mountain Gorilla View Lodge
"Well located and pleasant."
In December it was cold and despite the fire and hot water bottles it could feel a little damp. People should be aware that the electricity generator is only on at certain times. It does have internet (not to be taken for granted in hotels in Rwanda), albeit slow.
Staff are very helpful. Boots are cleaned to "as new" after trekking. There are Intore dancers performing in the afternoons. I'd advise avoiding new years eve - the loud disco they put on just made sure people had a really bad nights sleep (everyone gets up at about 5 AM for the trekking). Every other night it was very peaceful.
A variety of birds are in the grounds."

Cormoran Lodge
"Great location to relax."
Some of the staff were very helpful but some of the others a little cold, especially on arrival. It really helps if you can deploy a little French - it not only helped with their comprehension but also seemed to change their attitude to us.
We've marked the food as "average" because it ranged from excellent (particularly local dishes) to poor.
There are boats/water sports available."

Nyungwe Top View Hill Hotel
"Really pleasant staff in a great location."
It was a personalised service from the waiter and chef. We saw them cope admirably when the governor and a group of ministers and their entourage arrived for lunch. The food was very good (if not always exactly what an English person would expect from the description on the menu). The rooms have a very pleasant sitting area (with fire) and a balcony.
The bedrooms could have done with a few hooks/hanging space to hang things up. It is very well located for chimp and colubus monkey treks. In inclement weather there is little to do in the hotel itself. We hope this hotel (and Nyungwe) get more visitors - they deserve them."

Hotel des Mille Collines
Having said that it is a little tired and the rooftop restuarant food didn't really justify the price (we ate better food at various, more modest, locations throughout Rwanda). The restaurant is now to be refurbished (Jan 13).
There is not a hint that this was "Hotel Rwanda". Has a good sized pool and internet access."
