Trip exceeded expectations ...
Namibia between 12 Oct 2011 and 30 Oct 2011
"Trip exceeded expectations which were high anyway. All arrangements worked. Accommodation was excellent.
We had some tyre issues early on which caused us some worry but people at lodges were very helpful and we were soon able to get on with enjoying our holiday.
We had to cancel this holiday last year at short notice and Chris McIntyre was very understanding and supportive especially with insurers. Thanks again to Chris and Sabina for their help and understanding.
WE HAD A BRILLIANT EXPERIENCE - THANK YOU ALL!!!!
Suggestions to help us improve our trips or our service:
Keep it up! We hope to travel with you again! We met other travellers who were similarly impressed with Expert Africa.
PS We downgraded this form when it lost this page after completion! (go back to previous, then forward and it's gone)."

BullsPort Lodge and Farm
"Bullsport Guest Farm review"

"Terrific location, nice spacious room. Staff very keen that guests should enjoy available activities - in our case walks.
Communal dining is very fine - if everyone speaks the same language. Other guests were all German (and the hosts) but the evening might have been easier if we had our own table. Worse at breakfast when service was non-existent.
Very reasonably priced and well stocked honesty bar."

Feedback response
Johanna & Ernst Sauber, the owners of Bullsport Guest Farm, described themselves as ‘shaken’ by this review when they were sent it – as they pride themselves not only on their hospitality, service, but also on being able to integrate different nationalities and languages around an engaging dinner-table discussion without anybody feeling excluded.
However, checking their dates they realised that, unusually, they were both away from the farm that day – and commented “sadly, our back up team is not yet up to the challenge. It is very difficult to get someone as a relief manager for ‘normal’ lodge, but in a personal establishment like ours it’s an even greater challenge.”
They added that “All the ingredients to a healthy breakfast should have been available in full: bread, butter, jams and other preserves as well as coffee, milk, sugar on the breakfast table, homemade muesli, cereals, fruits, yoghurt, milk, cottage cheese, cold meats, cheeses, Hot water, a selection of teas, toast are offered buffet style. Eggs are to order, and normally our breakfast chef takes the orders from each guest individually. A Jura coffee machine can be used, if guests prefer Espresso or any other special coffee for breakfast, this coffee machine is on the breakfast buffet.”
They assured us that it’s rare for them both to be away from the farm, but they’ll work especially hard on their team’s service and hospitality for the few days that they’re not around themselves.

"Fantastic welcome by friendly staff.
Very grateful to those who helped with our tyre problems - they just took it away and dealt with it for us, leaving us feeling very relieved and able to get on with enjoying our holiday. In particular please pass our thanks to George and Philip again.
Enjoyed an excellent Saturday night meal but disappointed on the Sunday. Free house wine not very good and the tempting offer made us choose not to buy a decent bottle. Drop the free wine and offer more wines at reasonable prices.
Dinner was quite late - especially for those rising early for sunrise trip. Why did we have to wait for those returning from sundowners?"

"Really loved this place for location, comfort, service and room.
Owner continued campaign (started at Kulala) against Budget Car Hire until all was completely sorted. Thanks to Monika. All staff first class, couldn't have done more. You couldn't do better at a 5 star hotel!
Whilst here, we arranged for these travellers to do a Day trip to Sandwich Harbour. They commented:
A whole day gave us time to enjoy everything. Driving along the beach watching seals, cormorants, gulls at the edge of the dunes was quite special. This was followed by a birdwatching walk, an excellent lunch and afternoon drive over the dunes. This was spectacular, Ernest really knew his stuff and showed us the dune flora and fauna with energy and enthusiasm.
Could have stayed in Swakopmund another day as trip took up all our time there (and sorting out Budget car)."

"Wonderful setting among the boulders - we called it "Bedrock".
Welcoming, friendly staff, extremely comfortable. We loved the bird "fountain" and spent ages watching and photographing from the comfort of the lounge.
Room very hot during night. If the windows had mesh covering we would have left them open and introduced some ventilation."

Grootberg Lodge
"Grootberg Lodge - what a location!"

"Spectacular location with astonishing views but no Black Eagles. Once again great staff.
Lion sightings had caused cancellation of all hiking from the lodge.
New managers have taken over since reviewed by guide books. Beware signs of "twee-ness" - "elevator music" at dinner and beetroot paste piped round our breakfast plates went all over cutlery (and us). Isn't there any traditional Namibian music?
Elephant tracking activity was very expensive."

Halali Camp
"Halali Camp review"

"Nice room (but we did have the honeymoon suite). Large restaurant ran well and they had very good Namibian draught beer. Manager present and came round to check guests. Good food for a large buffet with plenty of choice.
Good waterhole and people mostly quiet. Floodlights fixed quickly after bushfire before we arrived.
Management seem to have dropped the expected performance with room inventory and we were able to check out quickly."

Okaukuejo Camp
"Okaukuejo Camp review"
2 nights
Arrived
24 Oct 2011
"Larger room here (accessible room) situated fairly close to waterhole. This was much quieter than expected apart from occasionally. Would more signs help? However, with many animals (including 6 rhino at one time) close to the viewing area it was the highlight of the place and even faced the setting sun for photography. Not to be missed. Outstanding.
The restarant is sinking under its own bureaucracy. You queue in reception to book, later queue in the restaurant to see which table has been allocated. You then search for your randomly numbered table and wait to be discovered by a waiter. Finally you queue for a long time to settle the bill. Good staff, no sign of management. Food less good than Halali. At lunchtime queued for 45 mins for a snack at the kiosk - Okaukuejo needs more staff. For information only - we did enjoy our stay."

"Must confess to being mysteriously up-graded to Bush Camp - Honeymoon Suite too. Wow!
Extremely comfortable, huge room. Very reluctant to leave. Outstandingly good food, staff, everything. Providing bird food outside room was a nice touch.
Very close encounters with leopards, cheetah and wild dogs. Stunning. Loved the owners commitment to the cause.
Faultless. Highlight of our trip. Not to be missed."

"Owner changed 2 years ago so review of facilities needed. Telescope has gone for starters. No sign of porcupine feeding.
Friendly with good food and nice room. Relaxing. Seemed a popular place to finish holiday.
Couldn't find start of trails for a walk. Map vague."
