Farmhouse Hotel: Our full report

The Farmhouse Hotel is an old renovated farmstead located in the quiet seaside town of Langebaan, 134km's ...

... from Cape Town. It is located up on a hill with uninterrupted views of the tranquil Langebaan Lagoon.

The Farmhouse Hotel has a total of 16 rooms, most with lagoon views. These vary from the simple Travellers Rooms through to the more luxurious Superior Rooms.

The hotel has a relaxing lounge with a selection of books to sit and enjoy and it's also a wireless hotspot where you can catch up with the outside world on your laptop whilst enjoying a drink.

The restaurant here serves traditional Cape Cuisine, and the in-house Deli has a range of fresh and wholesome treats from homemade breads and buttermilk rusks, to honey and nut muesli and gourmet snacks and baked meals. You can pack a basket of delights to take with you for your afternoon out.

There is a spa where you can enjoy a selection of treatments with an internationally recognized therapist.

Outside in the garden is a pool, surrounded by wrought iron sun loungers and sun umbrellas, where you can relax and enjoy the views of the lagoon.

From the Farmhouse Hotel you can enjoy boat trips on the lagoon, and a haven for any water sportsman. One of the best spot for kite-surfing and sailing! Go for walks in the nearby West Coast Nature Reserve, and visit Kraalbaai or Churchaven; two peaceful little fishing villages also within the Nature Reserve.

During August and September this area bursts into colour with the wild flowers that appear after the rains and the Farmhouse Hotel is an ideal place to base yourself and explore this amazing spectacle.

Our view

Don't expect the ultimate in luxury, but rather a fairly dated, albeit traditional and slightly quirky old farmhouse feel. Not much has changed in the decor over the years, but it's a comfortable place to stay, offering friendly service and a good base to explore the West Coast Nature Reserve and surrounding towns of Yzerfontein, Paternoster and the likes.
