Lewa House: picture gallery

Lewa House, in the heart of the Lewa Conservancy, has great wildlife-watching opportunities.
The lodge is based around a central, thatched building…
...which leads through to a spacious sitting and dining room…
...and a small bar.
Outside there is a large covered terrace...
...with plenty of interesting curios dotted about the place.
From the terrace, the paths lead down through the gardens...
...to the free form swimming pool.
Lunch is served in the open sided dining area overlooking the pool...
...and is generally a buffet of fresh and light dishes...
…while dinner is invariably inside, in the rather baronial main dining room.
Nearby the main lounge, the shop can found...
...which is well stocked with a great variety of products.
The cottage guest rooms are part of the original, private ranch house…
…and have large verandas linking each cottage bedroom.
Each cottage has a roomy double...
…with a solid, rustic style…
...and a slightly smaller twin room.
…which is equally traditional, with rugs to soften the cement floor.
Both rooms have their own matching ensuites...
…with spacious, plastered bathrooms…
...with good amenities including large, walk-in showers.
The so-called "earth pods" are radically different from the cottages on the outside…
...but are pretty conventional on the inside, configured as twins or doubles.
There is a spacious dressing room and storage area...
...and lovely outdoor seating on the wraparound veranda...
...from which the views can be enjoyed in privacy.
The generously proportioned bathrooms have a good selection of amenities...
...including a shower...
...and outdoor bath in three of the pods.
Activities at Lewa House focus on game drives in the lodge's Land Cruisers.
These often finish at dusk, with a sundowner in a good vantage point and a drive back after dark.
Game walks are also on the agenda, as are visits to the Lewa prehistoric hand-axe site.
The owners also conduct very interesting visits to their farm area…
…where you can meet breakfast…
…and see how passion fruit grow.
