"Botswana 2012"
I visited Botswana between 3 Nov 2012 and 15 Nov 2012
"Good mix of camps and localities. Staff at all levels generally well-trained, friendly, helpful. Food at dinner generally disappointing (with the exception of Batswana beef), although brunches and teas were usually very good, and wines and other drinks were good. We understand the problem of lighting versus insects, but we do like to see what we're eating; Lagoon seemed to have got it nearly right.
Wildlife varied from disappointing to wonderful. Guides/drivers/spotters usually informative and knowledgeable; vehicles varied in comfort and facilities.
Suggestions to help us improve our trips or our service:
Given my comments on the individual camps, it would have been helpful to know that it was sometimes a long (hot) walk to the furthest away rooms. Camp staff were helpful when this proved to be a problem." Read full review: 12 nights in Africa; 12 on a Botswana safari

"My Nov 2012 trip"
I visited Botswana between 1 Nov 2012 and 15 Nov 2012
"It was a wonderful holiday seeing all the game life.
Botswana appears to be dominated by lions and elephants. I was grateful to see the pack of wild dogs whilst staying at Lagoon as all other camps said that there were no wild dogs in their vicinity. I saw 39 different lions over the 2 weeks, 5 leopards, 3 Cheetahs, a pack of wild dogs and a good number of Hyena. I only saw leopards at Lagoon and Sandibe.
The trip was very well organised - thank you. All pick ups and transfers worked perfectly , there being no hitches. I would go back tomorrowm if I could afford it." Read full review: 14 nights in Africa; 13 on a Botswana safari

"Our trip to Zambia and Botswana October 2012"
I visited Zambia and 1 other country between 2 Sep 2012 and 24 Oct 2012
"DIfficult to know where to begin: it was such a wonderful experience: our first time on safari - total beginners: we didn't know what to expect.
The planning and organisation by Expert Africa was excellent: we felt that the EA team in London really gave us personal treatment. The mixture of different styles of camp and environments in Zambia and Botswana which Expert Africa suggested gave us a great perspective.
Overall, our preference was for the more remote camps with the close-to-nature feel. The combination of water and grass and woodlands was particularly interesting not only for their beauty but also for the variety of animals and birds to be seen. The Luangwa and the Zambezi rivers are stamped forever on our memories.
There seemed to be a very good team spirit particularly in the small, locally run camps. All 8 camps were impeccable, well run and there was always a warm welcome. We were amazed at the wonderful homemade food in such remote places. We only took 10kgs each of baggage (plus cameras) but could have managed with less as the same-day laundry facilities were very good and there was no time to "dress-up" in the evenings. We were impressed by the policy of training local staff from humble jobs right up to management: they all seemed very proud of their jobs and their country.
We had first-class guides everywhere - very skilled and well informed and good company.
We were amazed at how many guests had been on safari numerous times before, often to the same camps. We met some really nice people both local and guests from all over the world - which is important as you are all thrown together both in the jeeps and round the campfires. We were also amazed at how close one comes to the animals in the bush - even lions and leopard. We were not previously bird-watchers - but the variety of beautiful birds and the dawn chorus was so different to what we know in Europe.
Would we go back? We are starting a bit late in life but we have wonderful memories of this experience and hope we will be able to go back.
Suggestions to help us improve our trips or our service:
Some of the non-English-speaking guests could have been helped if the camps/guides had some field guides in other languages e.g. French. A couple of our guides (Dukes in Selinda, Bibi in Chitabe Lediba) were interested to learn French or Italian which could be a way of attracting more guests from other parts of Europe. The majority of guests were either from UK or USA.
A couple of ideas for the gift-shops: post-cards of the camps and of local scenery (+ stamps). If postcards were available they were mostly of animals. Small gifts such as letter openers, hair clips and hair accessories made of wood or bone. CD's of local music.
In two camps in Zambia (Tena Tena & Chiawa) we were given aluminium water bottles to use during our stay and keep as souvenirs. This was an excellent idea. Also the local filtered water was excellent and gave us no tummy problems. Only in Chitabe did the water have a strange smell and taste." Read full review: 52 nights in Africa; 12 on a Zambia safari

"Unforgettable!"
I visited Botswana between 22 Jul 2012 and 2 Aug 2012
"With hindsight we would have skipped Kasane. If we had known what the "game drive" from Savute airstrip to Linyanti was actually like we probably would have cancelled this camp but glad we didn't as the game viewing there, not to mention the elephants all round our tent was wonderful. Kanana was fantastic.
Botswana was even more astonishing than I had anticipated and I would love to go back.

"fabulous trip"
I visited Botswana and 1 other country between 17 Jun 2012 and 5 Jul 2012
"My trip to Africa exceeded my dreams and expectations. Everything ran so smoothly, the hospitality and game viewing at the camps was fantastic, and the camps Maruska put us in were gorgeous and fit into our budget. There's only one problem--now I've been bitten by the safari bug and can't wait to go back!
Many thanks for all you did to make my dream trip to Africa a reality.

"Could not have been better"
I visited Botswana and 2 other countries between 10 Jun 2012 and 25 Jun 2012
"Maruska listened to our preferences and designed our perfect trip. Every camp offered something unique. We honestly would not have changed anything -- okay, other than a desire to "magically" transport from the U.S. to Maun and back. ;-)
The camps were a perfect succession from semi-rustic to start and finishing with pure pure luxury." Read full review: 15 nights in Africa; 10 on a Botswana safari

"My May 2012 trip"
I visited Botswana between 28 May 2012 and 7 Jun 2012
"The more we reflect on it, the better it was. We cannot speak highly enough of the trip and are busy saving for a return. Expert Africa has been great all through the process. Nick Hobbs has been patient and informative, and recommended an excellent first trip to us. We'll probably get better cameras for the next trip, and perhaps consider some different experiences - specific fishing or bird watching elements, and perhaps a trip to Livingstone. Obviously a very good model of trip has been developed, with early starts, some quite time in the afternoon, regular food and drink etc.
We enjoyed the people we met - both guests and Botswana people. A fantastic country.

If it was not so expensive, we would be going back sooner rather than later - but we appreciate the need for the costs to be as they are. Perhaps there is a loyalty scheme for returning customers?" Read full review: 10 nights in Africa; 9 on a Botswana safari

"Namibia & Botswana May, 2012"
I visited Botswana and 1 other country between 8 May 2012 and 3 Jun 2012
"So much of this trip was a bit of magic.
From climbing dunes to watching sunrise over the red dunes to watching a group of lions surround our vehicle and literally ROAR at us to watching Cheetahs stalk and kill, to sleeping under the stars, driving for hours on roads and being in this amazing wilderness and not seeing another car for hours and not to forget all the wonderful people we met. Some proprieters of lodges, guests and employees.
Not all of the trip was perfect, but all in all we had an amazing time." Read full review: 26 nights in Africa; 14 on a Botswana safari
