Mdonya Old River Camp
"Mdonya Old River Camp"

Impala Camp
"Selous Impala Camp"
After spending 2 days on vehicle safari in Ruaha it was great to experience a river safari on our first afternoon in Selous, and have the chance to see wildlife from the boat. It was also great to have the opportunity to explore the park on foot. The tents are great, and it was nice to cool off in the swimming pool in the afternoon after an early morning safari.
The tables at dinner were set apart so that we had privacy from other guests and the food was lovely and plentiful! During our trip we were lucky enough to see most of the wildlife we had hoped to in Selous apart from the elusive Leopard! Overall Selous Impala offered a little slice of luxury in an amazing setting!"

Ras Nungwi Beach Hotel (Not currently featured by Expert Africa)
"Ras Nungwi Beach Hotel"
We can't comment on the various trips on offer as our aim was to do very little and this was easily achieved in the beautiful grounds. We stayed 3 nights before moving to Unguja Lodge in the south.
Ras was a lovely hotel but for us we preferred the quieter and less commercial Unguja."

Unguja Lodge
"Unguja Lodge"
The accommodation is extremely spacious and had a real sense of privacy even with the open air layout (there is however an enclosed bedroom). And it was great laying in bed hearing the monkeys on the roof and in the trees outside our villa.
The owners - Ralph and Elise - welcomed us and were always on hand if needed. They arranged a tour of the nearby village for us with one of their staff, a village resident, as our guide - a real insight into the Zanzibar way of life. The pool area was perfect for unwinding and staff were friendly and helpful. Pre-dinner drinks gives a chance to socialise but then the dining area is cleverly split by low level walls to give a sense of individual dining areas
We appreciated the laid-back atmosphere, the personal touch of the owners, and the amazing villas, and therefore for us Unguja was superior to Ras Nungwi where we also spent 3 nights."
Although the camp is basic the atmosphere created by the kerosene lamps and simple style tents immerses you in the safari experience. And a shower under the stars is one of the many memories we will never forget! Meals are taken together which provided a good opportunity to share your days experience with other guests.
The setting of the camp was superb - we saw Impala, Elephant, Buffalo and more from our tent! The staff were really friendly and helpful and make you feel welcome the second you land on the airstrip - our transfer to the camp turned into a full safari and by the time we reached the camp we had seen a wide variety of wildlife already.
Overall an excellent place for those with a sense of adventure!"
