My Jun 2009 trip
Tanzania and 1 other country between 27 Jun 2009 and 12 Jul 2009
"Great trip lived upto expectations. Ruaha was a revelation and a really great place to visit.
Everything wnet smoothly, apart from the hiccup with the Selous flight, which was a Costal problem.
Suggestions for improvements:
Nothing to add. We have used Expert Africa five times now and Sunvil to go to Costa Rica. We always mention the company whenever we are asked about our trips to Africa."

Impala Camp

"If you want luxury and fantastic food this is the place to go. This camp reminded us very much of the high standard in Botswana. We were really well looked after in our stay. Great atmosphere and everyone was very friendly. You can do what ever activities you want and when you want to, nothing is too much trouble. Mohammed was our personal waiter at all our meals and Denis was our guide and driver both were very good.
Saw lots of wildlife, and had our best ever sighting of leopard.
The transfer to the air strip by boat was also a nice option."

Mdonya Old River Camp

"Mycol and her team run this camp very well in what is probably the best National Park in Africa. The low impact of the camp on the environment adds to its appeal. Sitting under canvas having breakfast while elephant and impala graze a short distance away is what Africa is all about. Food was very good and as with the other camps we visited on this trip nothing was too much touble.
Our guide Zakariah and driver, Knight, were brilliant and worked very hard for us, ensuring we had the opportunity to see a wide variaty of animals and birds. They were with us on all our game drives and even gave up their day off to be with us on our last full day at the camp. On one day we wanted to try and find sable in what is a remote part of the park. We searched all day but didn't find them, but it wasn't for the lack of effort on both their part. On other all day drives we did see cheetah, lion (35 in one day in six separate instances) as well as elephants digging for water in the dried up river beds, as well as lots more besides.
Ruaha is an absolute gem of a park, with so many variable habitats and lots of wildlife. It is also the place to come to if you want to see more animals than tourists."

"We really enjoyed our time here. The room we had was first class. We were really well looked after, including giving us breakfast at 5.30am on our day of departure, when normally service starts at 8.00am. The hotel is well located in Stone Town and is very near to all the shops and restuarants.
Would recommend Mercury's, Livinstones and The Silk Route for eating out."

Feedback response
Whilst in Zannzibar, we organised a half-day trip to Jozani Forest for these travellers. The rated this as 'good' and commented:
"We also had a spice tour and a tour of Stone Town. All three were good, epscially the spice tour which exceeded our expectations and seeing the market in Stone Town was particularly good. Our only slight concern was our guide, Rasheed, did take a number of calls on his mobile, during the spice tour and the Stone Town tour. It didn't spoil our enjoyment of either, but we felt that the phone should either have been switched off our he should have explained why he was taking the calls, e.g. someone not well at home, or a problem with some element of the tour. It flet more like they were personal calls.
It would be helpful of EcoTours were aware of this.
The tour to Jozani was as we expected with the viewing of the Kirk's Red Colobus very easy as they have been habituated. What was interesting was seeing everday life on Zanzibar on the drive from the spice farm to the forest. Still a worthwhile trip."

We have been on several safaries in Africa but this was our first experince of being able to go out on all day game drives, which if you like wildlife are a great experience. Our guide and driver were very good and attentive and it was nice to have them on all our game drives as we got to know them well and learnt a little of their life away from the camp.
The boat safari is also well worth doing as you get close to the hippos and crocodiles and there are some great sightings of bee eaters who nest in the banks of the river. The absolute highlight was seeing wild dog and their litter of seven puppies, but there is an abundance of wildlife, especially giraffe, wilderbeast and elephant.
The camp has a great atmosphere, and the lack of electricity adds to the experience of really being in the bush."
