My Aug 2024 trip
Zambia between 3 Aug 2024 and 11 Aug 2024
"Experience as a whole was fine. Great - not brilliant.
As mentioned, the area is sparse in wildlife so, although it is realistic to have to search out game, I've been on other safaris where the finds were more exciting."

Feedback response
We have spoken to the team at Flatdogs, who were sorry to hear of the comments regarding the food in camp.
They have responded: "We are sorry to hear this traveller's feedback on the meals in camp, and if this impacted on the enjoyment of their stay. We attempt to maintain a diverse menu (unlike other safari lodges in Zambia) so that people can chose what they fancy, as we are often serving a mix of travellers from all over the world and of all ages, with different tastes. For example, kids are able to eat with a family group and not impact on other peoples enjoyment, whilst still being served what they want, when they want. Our ramen is not exactly like the Japanese version as it is quite difficult to make your own dashi here with the lack of seaweed - we will adjust to call it a 'ramen style' dish. We also try and be a little experimental and not have a rolling 7 day menu where we do the same things over and over again. Most guests love the fact that we have a diverse menu and that we try different things that our chefs are learning to cook. All of our chefs have been trained in our camp kitchen, and have incredible skills that they will have for life.
We do offer nshima with a selection of relishes (rape, cabbage and tomato, chiwawa) on the main menu, and also incorporate local ingredients such as mundambi (wild hibiscus), munkoyo (a local root), tamarind, baobab etc into several of our dishes, in order to represent the local Zambian food - but we will make sure we offer our Zambian Tasting Plate more often, as this may not have made the menu when this traveller stayed.

Sightings report
The staff at all levels were extremely friendly, helpful, interested, welcoming. Couldn't ask for more.
The game drives were good and our driver/guide very good - but the area seems to be rather lacking in "game" so anyone coming on a first safari to experience game might be disappointed.
We were just as interested in the birds as game, so we were OK
I found the food OK but would suggest that they are trying too hard to make all sorts of dishes from around the world - and not getting them all right. e.g Ramen was poor and not at all like Japanese Ramen.
With the small number of guests I would think they would be better to have less choice on the menu and make sure all dishes are delicious. Also include more local cuisine."
