My May 2024 trip
Namibia between 18 May 2024 and 1 Jun 2024
"We thoroughly enjoyed the trip. The variety of scenery was fabulous and the standard of accommodation and food exceeded our expectations.
The itinerary and route worked out perfectly for 14 nights in the country. Everyone we met was very friendly and welcoming.
We weren’t expecting to see wildlife in such great numbers and to see so many baby animals was a great bonus.
Some of the road surfaces were quite challenging on the C and D roads, as were the roads to the waterholes in Etosha, but we did feel secure in our 4x4 and drove fairly cautiously, fortunately avoiding a puncture!
Chris McIntyre’s book was invaluable, particularly about the waterholes in Etosha, as well as the detailed travel documents and map. So much information on the website too, though some things need updating. For example, in Okaukuejo they no longer do a room inventory. Also, park entrance is now N$ 350 per 24hours for 2 persons plus vehicle."

"The drive here was quite challenging for us on the C24 and D1206 but we had a lovely welcome (with tea and homemade cake) at Bullsport and our ‘luxury room’ was enormous and well appointed.
We did the Kudu Trail that afternoon then had a quick dip in their attractive but freezing cold pool.
Dinner was on the terrace with another couple of guests - a very tasty 3 course set meal.
The next day, after a lovely breakfast with delicious homemade bread, the owner was happy to let us check out late so we could do a 2hour walk in the mountains. Loved the stunning scenery .
We didn’t have enough time to do the Quiver Tree walk or the horse riding but still thought it was an excellent 1-night stay."

Dead Valley Lodge

"Situated inside the park but just outside the payment gate. Overall the lodge looked really contemporary and stylish in both rooms and common areas but we did have a few issues with functionality.
The pool was small with only a few sunbeds.
There was very limited shaded parking for the number of rooms and our enormous and stylish room (No. 1) was well lit but had no power-point anywhere near the bed. The air conditioning wasn’t very efficient and the bathroom was very dimly lit and had no mirror.
In the dining area the rustic looking wooden tables had such an uneven surface it was really tricky to balance a drink without spilling it. Limited choice for lunch but the barbecue and buffet dinners were very good with lots of choices.
One morning we had a packed breakfast which was good, as was the breakfast we enjoyed the next day in the restaurant.
This was a great location for our visit to Sesriem Canyon, our climb of Dune 45 just after sunrise, our visit to Deadvlei and our sunset walk up Elim Dune."

"Well located for exploring the attractive town of Swakopmund on foot. There was lovely central garden area with a well visited bird table and some attractive planting.
Our room was not especially large but was very well appointed with a nice terrace. The owner was very helpful and contacted Turnstone Tours to confirm our booking for the coastal and Sandwich Harbour tour the next day. This tour was brilliant with a superb and incredibly knowledgeable guide.
Breakfast was good and served in a smarty decorated room.
It was an easy walk to the restaurants we used for dinner - The Jetty and The Tug - both excellent."

"We LOVED Camp Kipwe!
Stunning and varied scenery on the drive from Swakopmund and some tricky driving on the D2612, but a fabulous welcome from such a professional friendly staff. Cold towels, cold drinks, then tea and cake!
Our room (No. 1) was gorgeous - spacious, luxurious, quirky and a fabulous view from our terrace.
The restaurant was so good - exceptional service and beautifully presented delicious food in a superb setting for both dinner and breakfast.
Great game drive with Ziggy who worked so hard for us to find the desert adapted elephants, when we also saw giraffes with babies.
The pool is very attractive but merely a plunge pool, but lots of shaded sunloungers for relaxing.
The sundowner spot up some steps was very special - a terrific view and nicely served drinks with some tasty canapés.
We were so impressed with everything about Camp Kipwe and the service was exceptional."

Okaukuejo Camp

"Our Bush Chalet (no. 91) was well located, being a short walk to both the waterhole and the restaurant.
It was very dated as we’d expected , but very clean with a good bed and bedding, efficient AC and instant hot water in the bathroom.
No safe for our valuables. We could park just outside the chalet.
Dinner in the camp restaurant was below average - a la carte with limited choices but sadly the vegetables were cold on both occasions we dined here.
Breakfast was better - buffet style with an egg station and a fairly good choice. We had one lunch which was OK.
The on-site floodlit waterhole was brilliant, at early morning, late evening and even in mid-afternoon.
Definitely worth putting up with dated rooms and below par food for this stunning waterhole.
A great location within the park for our game drives to so many different waterholes and fabulous game viewing."

Mushara Bush Camp

"This was the smartest ‘tent’ ever! (Ours was No. 4). A timber framed en-suite chalet with a solid floor, fully mosquito netted with flaps both inside and out. The decor was very stylish and ‘bush themed’ with a very comfortable bed.
Brilliant turndown service whilst we were at dinner - all our tent flaps were lowered and the bed was well prepared, including a hot water bottle.
Central areas were also very stylish, with a large pool with spacious seating areas plus a children’s playground.
Dinner was at a fixed time (7pm) with a small choice and service and food were excellent in a very pleasant setting. Breakfast also was very good.
The camp was only a short drive to the park entrance so very convenient for us to explore another area of Etosha."

"Great location in stunning scenery.
Our room, an attractive thatched chalet with fabulous views, was large and well appointed. However, for the first time, the fridge was crammed full of drinks to purchase, so no room for our water bottles.
Here, we were told not to drink the water but one large bottle was provided.
Staff seemed a little young and inexperienced and restaurant was rather soulless, though food was good.
We did a slightly challenging self-guided walk on arrival, which we loved, then a little later did the complimentary guided sunset walk which was excellent and not quite as challenging.
The guide was entertaining and informative and carried all our drinks for sundowners on the mountain top, including nibbles!
We had a relaxing morning after breakfast and checkout, sitting around the pool enjoying the beautiful scenery."

"Welcoming host, good room and excellent breakfast. All staff were very pleasant and helpful.
Decor was contemporary with a large lounge area with a small library and pool terrace.
Very friendly host was happy to make our reservation at Joe’s Beerhouse and book the taxi."

After our long flights we decided to dine in house and we were very pleased with the delicious meal in lovely surroundings. Excellent breakfast too.
Car parking was very tight but the staff member who assisted us was brilliant.
There are a few awkward step at this property to both rooms and restaurant which might be a problem for some people."
