The trip of a life time in Namibia.
Namibia between 30 Jul 2009 and 26 Aug 2009
Expert Africa (Maruska) had done a great job in doing the bookings and in giving us information about where we were going. It was excellent having the map with the route shown and the accomodation wriitten in. Chris McIntyre's book was invaluable. I have recommended Expert Africa to many people and haven't been able to praise them highly enough.
Many thanks Maruska."

It was okay for a stop en route to Sossussvlei and the facilities were more than adequate."

I was disappointed that when I asked if I could buy some vegetables I was told that they didn't sell any as they had to keep them for their lodge guests. This was despite there being a notice on the wall of their shop to say they sold basic veg and it said in Chris's book that they did. All I wanted was 2 potatoes, but she didn't even ask what we needed.
We went on one of the walks recommended on their property. It was dangerous in parts and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone."

BullsPort Lodge and Farm
"Bullsport Guest Farm review"
We had one of the new rooms that were completed this year and it had very comfortable beds with great duvets. Spacious rooms, sofa and 2 armchairs, a huge bathroom and a long, wide shelf to put bags on, if only all places had that. Very tastefully finished with a very nice colour scheme. The best we stayed in in Namibia.
We did a 4 hour walk on their property called the Quiver Tree Walk. The map and instructions we were given were very clear and easy to follow. It was most enjoyable."

The mens block had no shower curtains and the toilet doors didn't close properly. It is a surprise that they have put in a restaurant when basic facilities are so bad, a coat of paint would make the world of difference. I wopuld not return there until the ablutions blocks had been cleaned up."

It was nice to be camping with Namibian people (Herero family and another family who played great African music) rather than the usual tourists."

We had dinner at the restaurant which was a mistake. Canned Tomato soup, canned vegetables, bought muffin for dessert. Far better to cook for yourself at your campsite.
We went on the trip to the Himba village. As we left 4 4WD cars asked to come just to take photos. It was very upsetting to see them line up 3 deep to take photos of the women sitting around one of the huts who not surprisingly looked resentful. These people walked into the huts and took photos and were totally insensitive and rude, they shouldn't have been allowed to come along. When they left there were the 7 of us left who were initially on the trip and we managed to get to look around and speak to the women which was very enjoyable."

Kavita Lion Lodge, Namibia (this camp has since closed)
"Kavita Lion Lodge review"
We were most upset with the trip to see the Lions. We were asked when we arrived if we wanted to go on the trip that was leaving in 10 minutes or the next morning, we opted for the morning trip. The trip consisted of 40 minutes showing us the small school they have to educate children about Lions. 20 minutes trying to see Lions who had been fed and were mostly behind bushes. We were asked for a donation or to sponsor a Lion for a year at a considerable cost. We were charged N$200 each yet no mention was ever made of the cost, we expected it to be part of the package as it was assumed from the start that we were doing it. It felt like a promotion and we felt we were used as a money making venture.
Apparently if you have full board you get a free trip, B&B nothing and half board is not mentioned. I should've paid for lunch despite not being there, it would've worked out cheaper. We wouldn't go back."

Loved the Bushmen people, they are very gentle, with a good sense of humour. It was a privilege to be able to spend time with them. Our guide Steve was excellent."
