South Luangwa with Norman Carr Safaris
Zambia between 10 Sep 2009 and 18 Sep 2009
"We have always wanted to go on a safari holiday and it has taken several years of planning and saving up to finally do it, but this has definitely been the most enjoyable holiday we have ever had and lived up to all our expectations in every way.
We really wanted to be pampered and spoiled, see all the animals in beautiful surroundings and to see as few other people and vehicles as possible and try and get a feel for Africa. South Luangwa delivered the locations and animals and Norman Carr Safaris was staffed by amazing people and run to a higher standard than we could possibly have hoped for. We would recommend it to anyone and plan to go back ourselves in the future.
Suggestions for improvements:
No, everything was perfect."

"Stunning location with a multitude of animals wandering through camp at all hours of the day and night. Feeling so close to nature was wonderful and much more than we had expected. Shaddy and Batwell were tremendous fun to be guided by and clearly work brilliantly as a team. They totally made the holiday for us and we were especially lucky to have them all to ourselves for our first morning walk.
The chalets were lovely and we were so impressed to hear how the whole place has to be rebuilt every year. It made us appreciate how lucky we were to be able to visit such a place at all. The food was excellent, as was the laundry facility. The tsetse flies were an unpleasant surprise, but they were the only point of complaint at all.
Nsolo was our favourite place of the holiday, mostly because of the great staff there, but also because we saw wild dogs, which we hadn't dared to hope for and was very special."

Mchenja Bushcamp
"Luxuriant safari at Mchenja"

"We loved the difference in look and feel of the accommodation at the various places we stayed, but felt that the rooms at Mchenja were the most romantic and gave the most elegant impression. The location on the river bank was lovely and the outside deck was a great place to siesta as lots of antelope and birds came very close. However it didn't feel quite as private as either Kpani or Nsolo,as we could see our neighbour and the chitenje from our deck.
All the staff were very friendly and helpful, but special mention of Levy and Mindy, who were both great fun and made sure our stay was perfect. Levy put in lots of effort to track down whatever we asked him for, the leopard being our obvious favourite. The only improvement I could suggest is for there to be more light in the chitenje in the evenings that doesn't rely on candles; very dark when it was windy."

Avani Victoria Falls
"Zambezi Sun review"

"Wished we had gone here first because after the incredibly high standard of accommodation and service on safari no hotel could ever match up. The staff were pleasant and friendly and the hotel was generally what we had expected. We were delighted to be so close to Victoria Falls and able to visit it several times and the hotel gardens were very pretty. We also enjoyed being able to walk into the next door hotel and eat and drink there too as it was even more pretty there.
Only complaints were that the air conditioning in the room was very noisy and mostly ineffectual and the hotel reception couldn't change us a 50 dollar note, which we thought was not great service from such a big hotel. Minor things really though."

We stayed in one of the suites, which we weren't expecting and it was fabulous. The decor and cleanliness were outstanding and the view of the lagoon was delightful, especially as each rooms veranda and lookout were private. You felt wonderfully secluded. The excellent laundry service was much appreciated and the food was out of this world. We couldn't believe how great the catering was in such a rural setting.
We'd never been on safari before, but the guides were fantastic and catered for all levels of knowledge without making you feel like you were asking a silly question. They were also great at helping us get the best views of the animals for photographs and tried to make sure we found the animals we really wanted to see. We appreciated that all the staff wroked very hard to make our holiday wonderful, but were always cheerful and seemed to be enjoying their work. We were mainly guided by John and Ashid and they were both lovely people and brilliant at their jobs."
