My Sep 2022 trip
Namibia and 1 other country between 29 Sep 2022 and 21 Oct 2022
She must have spent hours on our trip alone. Not only will I be booking through Expert Africa again, I've already got friends organising their trip via Maruska.
I can't say enough about the service and ability to problem solve under pressure while ensuring that we could relax and know everything was in hand and was being taken care of.
Exemplary customer service and a fabulous trip.
Thank you so, so much.
You bill yourselves as 'Expert' Africa and absolutely live up to that title. Thank you so much for an unforgettable trip and will be booking with you again soon"

The Erongo Wild (Not currently featured by Expert Africa)
"The Erongo Wild review"
We did drive past and had our first 'proper' wildlife sightings nearby.
Some Giraffe and a troop of very excitable Baboons who hollered at us from a hilltop. Sad we missed out."

Ai Aiba Lodge
"Ai Aiba Lodge review"
The food was excellent and the guide who took us on the sunset walk was terrific and the kids (8 + 10) absolutely adored him. Not entirely sure why we were encouraged to taste Giraffe poo but the 8 year old still dines out on the story!
The pool is small but really welcoming.
Would not recommend driving all the way from Windhoek to get here, which was a bit of a mission, but we had a really interesting trip to get here."
Doro Nawas
"Doro Nawas review"
led I give 5 stars to every component of a location but Doro Nawas earned it in spades.
Heading out to track down Desert Elephant was utterly brilliant."
Etendeka Mountain Camp
"Etendeka Mountain Camp review"
We'd scratched our heads at the instruction to leave our (4x4 cars) and be picked up by a 4x4. As soon as we got on the track to the camp we realised why! Expert driving and really interesting trip to camp. Stopped now and then to check tracks and be told what is out there (and the landscape here is like the surface of some alien planet).
Then, out of the blue (actually a small swamp) stepped a young Black Rhino. The last time anyone had seen this girl she was still with her mother so this was something special. She stood there (about 200m away) for around ten minutes before she ambled back into her mud bath.
We saw plenty more Rhino in Etosha but this sighting was Blue Planet stuff. Really special.
Camp was superb. Stargazing at night and walks during the day. Saw a herd of elephant driving off a male who was clearly annoying the matriarch. Half an hour later we saw what might have caused the initial disturbance when we saw two lion resting beneath a scrap of shade.
Incredible camp."
Okaukuejo Camp
"Okaukuejo Camp review"
Kind of feels zoo-like (and that's just the humans).
Fantastic base from which to explore surrounding waterholes though. Once you get in your car you can find incredible sights where you are all on your own."
Etosha King Nehale
"Etosha King Nehale review"
Spectacular food - hands down the best we had in Namibia and worth visiting just for that alone!
A lot of interesting wildlife encounters on the way TO the camp (which is the ones I've marked down).
There is an impressive herd of cattle onsite (and you can see why they are so valued here when you see them)"
Namutoni Camp
"Namutoni Camp review"
Cute rooms. Interesting layout and very close to some spectacular encounters in the nearby waterholes.
Well worth getting up early for a drive at dawn (we were well rewarded)"
Mundulea Reserve
"Mundulea Reserve review"
Sitting on top of one of the escarpments, Mundulea stretches all the way to the horizon and you and your guide Bruno are the only humans there (apart from the cook who turns out simple but delicious food cooked over the open fire). One very large leopard would, by his tracks, sit outside the camp and watch us toast marshmallows which may be intimidating! Bruno explained his (the leopards) behaviour though and assured us we wouldn't be on the menu.
This is a place that will stay with me forever. Bruno is an incredibly interesting guide. Every day we would set off for two walks of varying length. As we walked Bruno would pick out tracks, pluck leaves from bushes or spot some creature or bird. We would simply follow animal tracks and walk, seemingly, at random. Occasionally Bruno would ask you to point where the camp was - almost impossible task but he knows exactly where you are at all times.
The reserve is HUGE though. One day we walked to visit a tree which Bruno had only ever seen from the air (!) which gives you an idea of how vast it is. One sadness - the kids really hoped to meet a Pangolin but, despite finding many signs of them, they were too shy to say hello. We did encounter many Black-faced Impala though which are very rare and Bruno managed to establish a breeding population which is now very healthy.
An immensely knowledgable guide, Bruno can extemporise for hours on geology, botany or early hominids as easily as he can discourse about animal behaviour. He is also very curious - he asked us a lot of questions about Aotearoa New Zealand and he seems to be adding to his store of knowledge every day.
This place is for people who are fit and prepared for a lot of walking but I cannot recommend Mundulea highly enough."
Naankuse Lodge (Not currently featured by Expert Africa)
"Naankuse Lodge review"
There were also a large amount of British backpacker types who were doing their overseas experience while 'working' on conservation activities here. They were rude to the African staff, hogged all the loungers by the pool, grabbed the nicest table at dinner and generally made themselves obnoxious.
The resort's conservation credentials seemed overblown and wildlife 'encounters' involved watching people heave meat to a population of rescued big cats who have no hope of being returned to the wild. A flashy website with very much 5* promises but 1* delivery.
The accommodation was expensive but only average. Much like accidentally staying at a timeshare resort. At least its wasn't far from the airport but I would definitely give this a miss.
I actually think Expert Africa shouldn't associate themselves with this place."

It looked a great option for a quick stop in Windhoek while we decompressed and hoped for our trip though."
