"With the exception of Mieke's and Okanjima, I felt the accommodations were overpriced (the Thule Hotel was a bargain, however, I did not make that reservation through EA).
The vehicle was great. I enjoyed the freedom of this self-drive vacation. Saw lots of wildlife and had some good interaction with Namibians apart from in the places we stayed.
We put 2323 km on our vehicle--probably 80% on gravel roads of varying condition. The highlights of the trip were the Cape Cross Seal Colony, the Skeleton Coast, Twyfelfontein pictographs, the Ongava hide, Etosha, and pangolin tracking at Okonjima.

"We had no water in the camp the morning we left because the elephants had torn out the water line serving the camp. I thought it was great--my wife, not so much.
The staff greeted us with a song then sang several songs for everyone after dinner. I am not given to organized fun, but their three part harmony was excellent. They had obviously practiced a lot and seemed to enjoy giving the performance."

"The best part about Ongava Lodge is the hide. We got close to black rhinos and giraffes. Great photography opportunity.

The staff from the top down is exceptional. The food is above average.
Our guide, Denny, is possibly the best guide we have had in 15 trips to Africa.

There is no benefit to staying at KDL as regards to getting into the park early. The dunes were swarming with people who had come from Sesriem by the time we arrived."
