Splash Camp
"Excellent Game Drives"
However, the rooms’ were very comfortable and were obviously new. They are wooden structures (i think) rather than canvas. The fronts were all netted so that we had a good view.
The staff were all lovely and it was nice that the game drivers joined the guests for meals. The food was good with sufficient choice.
The game drives were excellent and we saw loads of animals. I think it helped that we had a tracker as well as the driver/guide. I also enjoyed the motor boat cruise on the river. It made a peaceful change from bumping around in the jeep. And we still saw lots of elephants and hippos. The jeeps looked quite old (we did get three punctures - although they were not a major problem as the tyres were quickly changed) and again I was surprised given that the camp is new.
Sable Alley was my favourite camp but we saw lots more game at Splash."

Ilala Lodge
"Excellent with wonderful staff"
The staff were so helpful. We had a deluxe room looking out on to the well kept grounds where we could watch the warthogs and various antelopes. Although the hotel is on the edge of the town it was very peaceful. The location was perfect - we could walk to the falls and also to the shops, bars and restaurants in town.
We went on the Ra Ikane river cruises and would recommend them too."
I loved the tented ‘rooms’ - they were very comfortable and had everything we needed (inc. sherry!). The communal areas were also lovely. The food was good given that we were in the middle of the bush and it was c40C and there was lots of choice. The highlight for me was when we were woken up by elephants crashing through the camp and bumping into our tent.
I also enjoyed sitting out watching/listening to the hippos which live in the waterhole at the camp. We were there at the very end of the dry season but there was still enough water for the hippos.
The game drives were very good and in very new jeeps. On the drives there was no tracker just the driver/guide. Obviously, i don’t know if we would have seen more if we had had a tracker but at our second lodge we did see lots more game and we did have a tracker."
