As described by other travellers the accommodation is small but full of character. If you prioritise privacy make sure that you request a distant hut. There were bats inside the huts and and in some cases the mosquito nets. The camp staff were friendly and helpful and I enjoyed the food.
Nyambe was a capable guide, very well supported by Levi the scout. The default setting for the trucks appears to be 'roof on', which does restrict the view and photography. Game appears to be relatively less prolific on this side of the river in June. Much lower truck density does, however, enhance the intensity of the experience.
We had three excellent leopard sightings and being the only truck made these outstanding and memorable experiences. Daniel did my transfer and morning drive on the last day - great sightings and a guide of the future."
Mwamba Bushcamp
"Mwamba Renewed"
As always hospitality at Mwamba was excellent. Emma was good company - an amusing and knowledgable host. John and the team produced absolutely outstanding food made all the better by eating breakfast and dinner in the open and under the stars surrounded by the sound of the bush.
Sly was my guide and companion on the truck which was thankfully open, with no roof, and equipped with supports and dust covers for photography. In addition to good leopard and lion sightings around Mwamba I particularly valued the opportunity to explore inland - away from the river. The game tends to be shy but trucks are rare and sightings rewarding. Many thanks to Sly for finding great sightings, photographic suggestions and getting us in the right position!"
Kaingo Camp
"The Sound of Hippos"
As always the hospitality was excellent and I enjoyed catching up with Catherine, Joseph and the team. Cally was an amenable host and the food was, as always at Kaingo, outstanding. I particularly enjoyed eating a 'surprise' brunch in the bush overlooking the river.
This was an unusually dry year in South Luangwa, and the lagoons, which are normally covered with vivid green Egyptian cabbage weed in June, were almost dry resulting in conditions which were similar to July or August. While colour was reduced this was compensated by outstanding game viewing with large numbers of leopard sightings.
Sly was my guide throughout this trip to Mwamba and Kaingo and at Kaingo we enjoyed chasing wild dogs, watching leopards fight and lions drinking under the moonlight. As always Sly put us in the perfect position for photography. Thanks for some indelible memories Sly."

It's in a Covid crisis that you need a good agent to calm your fears and show there value!
Thanks Claire!"

The hotel is well located for Lusaka Airport and our room was well appointed and spacious. They have a restaurant which served a good evening meal.
Overall a good base for our overnight stay in Lusaka."
Mwamba Bushcamp
"Wild Mwamba"
The accommodation was comfortable providing a rather luxurious bush camp experience. Sly was our excellent and committed guide with a real eye for photographic opportunities. Mwamba is a true bushcamp and we listened to lions at night, watched wild dogs while having breakfast, elephants strolling to the waterhole over lunch and shared the waterhole with a herd of 300 buffalo.
Our wildlife sightings were outstanding with multiple leopard, lion and elephant sightings.
We have visited Mwamba in June 2019 and 2018 and we found that this visit in September perfectly complemented our earlier trips. Our trips in June were great for photography with relatively clean air and vibrant colours in the lagoons and wooded areas forming a perfect backdrop to the cast of predator and prey. September was considerably hotter and the progress of the dry season was reflected in the dust in the atmosphere and the desiccated vegetation.
We did however see some fantastic lion and leopard sightings which reflect the struggle for survival, and the kill, as the water supply diminishes. Whilst the dust does make photography more challenging it also produces stunning sunsets and sunrises."
Kaingo Camp
"Beautiful Kaingo"
Lester was an excellent host and Joseph and Catherine formed a strong and welcome link with the past. The food was, as always, excellent. Our accommodation was both private and exceptionally spacious. Yoram was an able guide and we had excellent lion and leopard sightings and some really good photographic opportunities.
While the hippo hide was quiet a trip to the carmine bee-eater hide was an extremely productive and enjoyable event. We also enjoyed a 'day trip' with Yoram which allowed us to see some of the less observed areas and species of South Luangwa including the Roan Antelope. Well worth the trip!
Compared to our previous visits to Kaingo, in June 2018 and 2019 temperatures were considerably higher and the water levels both in the river and the remaining lagoons were much lower. Predators and prey are present in both periods but September emphasises survival and the kill while June was more about the 'hunt', both for predators and for prey by predators.
Photographically early June is about vibrant colours - September the fight for survival and, of course carmine bee-eaters. Conclusion go in June and September!"
Very well organised safari

"A good place to recover from the flight"
Rooms and food are good and the service was excellent."
Tafika
"Lovely Atmosphere at Tafika"
We were fortunate to be flown in from Mfuwe by Rory - which was much appreciated and a great experience! The camp was excellent and we enjoyed the rustic feel of our accommodation - complete with visiting hippos! We saw almost no traffic when on game drives which definitely enhances the experience.
The visit to the Yellow Bill Colony is a must do - and we also took part in a walking safari guided by Stephen which was both enjoyable and exciting (Elephants). I can see why Remote Safaris has such a good reputation for walking safaris and we would probably focus on walking safaris if we returned.
We did see Lion and Leopard but we felt that the game intensity on the game drives could have been higher - I imagine that this increases on this side of the river as the dry season progresses."
Mwamba Bushcamp
"We love Mwamba Bushcamp!"
We were also going to stay at the sister camp Kaingo so we chose to get away from the river routes and go inland while at Mwamba. This provided good sitings of Buffalo, Wildebeest and Eland and we were fortunate to follow the Mwamba-Kaingo pride over a two day period as they pursued a head of Buffalo. We had Sylvester (Sly) as our guide and benefitted from his deep understanding of the wildlife and his uncanny ability to predict its behaviour!
Shenton Safaris offer the opportunity to walk between Mwamba and Kaingo and we would recommend this option - we saw plenty of game - including the Mwambe-Kaingo pride - a different experience when on foot - and we may have walked off some off the excellent food!"
Kaingo Camp
"The sound of Hippos at Kaingo"
Sylvester (Sly) was our excellent guide and his ability to spot photo opportunities and put the truck in the right place was key to my better photographic efforts! We had some fantastic Leopard sightings including Chiphadzuwa with Cub and were able to observe several unsuccessful(!) leopard hunts. Traffic was higher than at Mwamba and the presence of leopards and lions while we were at Kiango seemed to act as a draw for traffic from other lodges - but traffic still remained low and most of our sightings were in seclusion. Sly successfully led us to wild dogs on our last full day - cue celebration!
Kaingo and Mwamba camps are very different but both excellent - which is best - depends on which one we are in!"
Memorable Holiday
Zambia between 9 Jun 2018 and 22 Jun 2018
All of the camps were excellent but we particularly enjoyed our visits to Kaingo and Mwamba. The organisation by Expert Africa and Claire was excellent. We never felt pressured when designing the holiday and Claire clearly understood what we were seeking and devised a schedule which met our requirements.
The whole trip went without any organisational problems.
We would like to mention the great service provided by your agents in Lusaka who managed the transfers between Lusaka Airport and Latitude 15. Having travelled for 20 hours we really appreciated the friendly, efficient service they provided."

"Good transfer hotel in Lusaka"
It's an easy ride from the airport and the service was excellent, food was enjoyable and the bedroom was more than adequate for this purpose.
A comfortable night before setting out for the bush."
Kaingo Camp
"Magical 4 days at Kaingo Camp."
We liked the fact that we kept the same guide throughout our stay and the group size on activities never exceeded 4. Sly was an outstanding guide and we enjoyed his company, his enthusiasm and his knowledge. We were particularly impressed with his ability to predict the behaviour of leopards and elephants - putting us in the perfect photo spot. Wildlife was diverse and plentiful and we had multiple sitings of lion and leopard as well as dogs and and exciting interactions with elephants both inside and outside the camp! Kaingo worked us hard and both the Hippo Hide and the Mobile Hide provided interesting and enjoyable mid day activities.
South Luangwa and Sly also provided ravishing settings for morning coffee breaks and sundowners - we can't wait to return!"
Mwamba Bushcamp
"We Love Mwamba Bushcamp!"
Eve, Lyndie and Craig were superb hosts and the food was excellent. Superb work by the chef (Zacks).
We really enjoyed having a single guide for our stay in the camp - allowing us to build up a relationship with our guide Andrew. The game drives were excellent - we saw lots of wildlife (16 members of the Mwamba/Kaingo pride), great photographic opportunities and we loved the locations for morning coffee and sundowners. Andrew was a great guide - enthusiastic and committed, good company, informative and gave us a welcome window into Zambian life.
We'll be back!"
Old Mondoro Bushcamp
"Beautiful Setting at Old Mondoro"
The canoe safari is a bit scary - but a definite must do! With boat trips, canoe safaris, walking safari and night and day safaris in the 4x4 there's a great range of activities. However, while we saw lions, leopard and some great bull elephant action, the range and quantity of wildlife was quite restricted relative to our earlier camps in South Luangwa. I guess this is partly an early season issue.
Guiding was generally good - great canoe and walking safari with James - but we would have preferred to have a single guide for our stay and the stronger relationship this permits."
I was, however, disappointed to discover that no menu service was offered at breakfast and that food was restricted to a fairly average buffet. When checking out the desk told me that I should have been offered a breakfast menu as well as access to the buffet.
I hope that this was an aberration rather than a change in breakfast policy!"
