My Jun 2024 trip
Tanzania between 1 Jun 2024 and 9 Jun 2024
Nomad should be much more honest about Sand Rivers. It may have been good in the past but currently there is no reason to go there and I got the impression that they are aware of the issues."
Feedback response
We were delighted these travellers enjoyed their stay at Kigelia so much, but we were dismayed to read their comments about Sand Rivers. We accept they experienced very poor game-viewing during their stay there. Unusually heavy rains had left the park roads in a bad state, and the parks authorities had not finished with their seasonal road maintenance in the Sand Rivers area. By early June, that would normally have been completed. Nomad Tanzania responded to their comments by sincerely commiserating with them on their bad luck with the wildlife, but did not accept there was any dishonesty on their part. Nomad also shared reviews with us from other guests staying at the camp in June 2024 whose game-viewing experiences were very good. We agreed with Nomad that bad luck, not misrepresentation of Sand Rivers, lay behind their poor wildlife experience, and considered the overall trip rating of “terrible” as harsh. Nevertheless, as a gesture of goodwill, Nomad and Expert Africa agreed a partial refund of their stay at the camp. We continue to stand behind Sand Rivers as an outstanding safari camp in an excellent wildlife location.

I feel sorry about having to write this review (I could carry on with lots of detailed comments) because the staff were helpful and friendly, especially Hamza (camp manager). However, I think the staff were aware that they do not have the product that customers were paying for or expecting. The camp is effectively a nice, remote, country hotel but as such it cannot compete with country house hotels at much lower prices. As a safari camp it cannot offer much : there is relatively little game in the immediate vicinity of the camp and it isn’t possible to access other areas.
As previously advised I believe Nomad should not be selling this and that they should provide a very substantial refund."
Nomad should make it clear that bush walks are not available early in the season for safety reasons (we expected that but other guests were disappointed)."
