First trip to Namibia

Namibia between 11 Oct 2016 and 20 Oct 2016

Trip rating: Excellent
"Our trip was absolutely fantastic. We loved Namibia. It felt like an enormous adventure travelling along the long gravel roads through the most breathtaking scenery in our 4 wheel drive. Every time we turned a corner we seemed to be confronted with an even more beautiful view.

The lodges we stayed at were fantastic. We made a change to our itinerary as we didn't feel that Swakopmund offered us a truly African experience so we swapped 2 nights in Swakopmund for a night in Erongo Wilderness Lodge, which was very special, with beautifully designed up market tented accommodation in the Erongo Mountains. The activities were simple (trekking in the mountains) but very good fun.

Then we went to Okanjima to track leopards and cheetahs. This was an incredible experience. We didn't love the accommodation and the restaurant so much there, but it was well worth the visit because of our close encounters with these beautiful wild cats."

"Great welcome and perfect start. Authentic"

1 night Arrived 11 Oct 2016
"Nice authentic feel. Well decorated rooms and nice dining room.

Food was good and the location very pretty. It was the perfect start to our holiday. Not too far from the airport and yet we already felt in a remote spot.

Would highly recommend anyone to stay here on their first night."

BullsPort Lodge and Farm

BullsPort Lodge and Farm

"A genuinely unique stay at Bullsport."

2 nights Arrived 12 Oct 2016
"Loved the location of Bullsport Farm and the genuine feeling of staying on a farm. The horses were beautifully looked after and we enjoyed seeing them in the riding school just in front of the dining area. We also enjoyed our 2 hour hack through the local countryside.

They were good at making the guests mingle and offered lots of activities. As well as the riding we loved the trip to the gorge, which really offered beautiful and varied views all along the walk. We also had a lovely guide who drove us up there and gave us some information about the local wild life.

A very different place to stay. Highly recommended if you want an authentic experience."

Kulala Desert Lodge

Kulala Desert Lodge

"Our favourite lodge"

2 nights Arrived 14 Oct 2016
"Kulala is in the most dreamy location just on the edge of the National Park. It is such a privilege to be able to access the dunes through their own private gate.

Everything was so well done. Our room was so well designed and nicely rustic. The excursions were exciting and our guides were so good. The trip to Sesriem Canyon was worth doing but the highlight was the trip to the dunes. The views take your breath away and it is a perfect challenge to try and climb the dunes themselves.

This really was a once in a life time experience. We even topped it off with a balloon flight over this magical landscape."

Brigadoon

Brigadoon

"A nice B & B with friendly staff"

3 nights Arrived 16 Oct 2016
"Brigadoon itself is a good B & B which gives you a little escape from the town. We would have preferred a door to the bathroom however.

It was Swakopmund which we didn't like. It was such a contrast to the idyllic desert experience. The weather was misty and cold (people were wearing ski jackets) and the architecture underwhelming.

We did have 2 excursions booked but we didn't feel like we wanted to hang around this town whilst we were waiting to go on these excursions, so having booked 3 nights we only stayed 1 night. We would have liked to have been given more advice about Swakopmund itself to manage our expectations."

GocheGanas

GocheGanas

"The perfect end to the holiday"

1 night Arrived 19 Oct 2016
"Gocheganas does what it says on the tin. It has a lovely spa and a fantastic swimming pool. One night here at the end of our holiday provided us with some rest and relaxation after all our travelling. It is also only a 1 1/2 drive to the airport so an unstressful end to our holiday.

The food is good but the place has a slightly corporate feel so I wouldn't recommend staying any longer than 1 night when there are so many other beautiful lodges to stay at."
