Zambia during Covid-19
Zambia between 16 Oct 2020 and 27 Oct 2020
"I travel to Africa a few times a year.
I waited all summer for this pandemic to abate. It was just not happening! One day, feeling a mixture of bravery and self pity, I called Claire. "I know this is short notice, but I need to get to Africa". We looked at a few options and came up with a modest, do-able itinerary. I booked the flights, got a Covid-test and was on my way.
I travelled 24 hours to get to Zambia and more than 34 hours to get home. Overall, I had a great trip. I couldn't have felt safer and more welcome. Few tourists, lots of game, friendly and accommodating hosts.
I would do it again in a heartbeat, and probably will!"

Tafika
"Great hospitality in a remote, rustic setting"

"Tafika seemed to grow on me with each successive day. Hosts and staff were kind, attentive and very accommodating. Game drives covered a variety terrain. My knowledgeable guide (Amon) worked diligently in my behalf. (Alas, the wild dogs eluded us.) We did see a variety of wildlife and I was able to benefit from his expertise. In addition to night and day game drives, I went on a walking Safari. We saw leopard on foot, something not typically encountered. Cape Buffalo are definitely more intimidating at eye level! Anyone visiting the area should not pass up this opportunity.
While not a "foodie", I must mention that meals at this camp are exceptional. The hosts have an organic garden. Food is plentiful, diverse and incorporate a variety of cultural influences.
During my stay, I was able to spend a few hours at the nearby village. I toured the school, listened to the church choir and even got to meet some locale dignitaries. Everyone was extremely warm and welcoming. Thanks to all for your efforts to make my stay a memorable one."

Pioneer Camp
"Pioneer Camp review"
1 night
Arrived
25 Oct 2020
"Pioneer camp is located on the outskirts of Lusaka. It is about 20-30 minutes from the Airport. At some point, you leave the paved road and enter a remote area. This can be a bit daunting at night. The property is a combination of campsites and one room chalet style cabins. The rooms are somewhat shabby with few amenities.
What the property lacked in "creature comforts" was more than made up for by the kindness and hospitality of the staff. I was concerned that I could not leave the country without a Covid-19 test. Reception called the airline, airport and interceded to assure me that I would be able to board my flights unimpeded. Transfers were on time and efficiently managed."

There were a variety of activity options in addition to traditional game drives. Canoeing and Tiger Fishing were a great way to add diversity and new experiences to the trip. Hosts were creative in setting up surprising outings - lunch at a sandbar, dinner outside the camp. As we grilled under the stars, a leopard snatched a baboon and hoisted it into a nearby tree. Soon other Leopard and Hyena arrived to join the party. Food was good, wine selection even better.
Guides and staff, to a person, worked diligently to make my stay an enjoyable one. Many thanks for the great memories."
