Quest for my grandfather's roots in Kenya
Kenya between 12 Apr 2018 and 26 Apr 2018
I had a very unusual brief, trying to track down where my grandfather lived 100 years ago, and not only did he make smooth arrangements with a very good car and driver, and stays in lovely hotels, but he also entered into the spirit of my quest, sent out emails to his contacts, and generally helped me in my ultimately successful search.
He earns my highest praise and thanks."

Another time I would stay down there too."

The food is very good indeed. The showers are eccentric, but they did ultimately work.
The guide was nice, friendly, and found me the old gold mine where my grandfather prospected, but we did not see an enormous amount of birdlife. This is partly my fault: I am not good at seeing small birds in thick vegetation. However, the blue monkeys are charming!"

Saruni Wild
"Saruni Wild was a delight."
The tents are very comfortable indeed, the food was delicious, and the Maasai who work there are charming. I think my guide, Nemeria, gets himself inside the head of a lion, because I have never had such wonderful lion sightings anywhere else in Africa. (Mating lions, a pride with 10 cubs, a hunt and a kill).
We were out one day from 6.00am-9.30pm, with 1 1/2 hours in the middle for lunch."
